Key Features
- An Extreme Cross-Over. For the first time in any LEGO videogame, characters from a mix of some of the best brands in the universe join forces and battle in worlds outside of their own. A Dark Knight, a Wizard, and a LEGO Master Builder traveling together down the Yellow Brick Road is just the beginning.
- Keep Expanding. By purchasing additional expansion packs, players can grow their collection with a variety of their favorite brands to create even more crazy combinations.
- Discover Adventure Worlds. Each of the brands in LEGO Dimensions has its own unique Adventure World where players can explore, go on quests, race, and collect studs and bricks. There are in total 14 Adventure Worlds that can be unlocked to add even more gameplay, and each world can be unlocked with any LEGO Dimensions minifigure belonging to that brand. With the Starter Pack, players can instantly access 3 -- DC Comics (with Batman), The Lord of the Rings (with Gandalf), and The LEGO Movie (with Wyldstyle). And just like the levels in the LEGO Dimensions Starter Pack, any character can use any vehicle or gadget in any Adventure World.
- More is Better. Bring up to seven minifigures, vehicles and/or gadgets into the game all at once by dropping them on the LEGO Toy Pad for the most exciting and action-filled game around.
- 3-in-1 Building. Build and then rebuild to power-up every vehicle and gadget. Each can be built a total of three times providing super-charged, in-game abilities with each upgrade.
- The LEGO Toy Pad Does More. It lights-up, flashes and even changes color to give players clues as to where to go, what to look for, or how to solve a puzzle. Gamers command the action – where and when the physical toys are moved on the LEGO Toy Pad will impact what happens in the game.
- Play Alone or with a Friend. Players can let imagination guide their solo journey or have a friend join the adventure with co-operative, drop-in/drop-out play.
- The Starter Pack Will Last. The LEGO Toy Pad and the videogame found in the initial Starter Pack will offer continued compatibility with future Expansion Packs for years to come. Like any LEGO building set, LEGO Dimensions is a system of play that offers continued compatibility – everything bought today or expanded with tomorrow will continue to work.

1) Love being able to play with different characters in different dimensions. For example, the joker is the boss in the Simpsons base game level
2) Once you buy an expansion, you get the open world for that character. So far we've only checked out the back to the future world and it is massive with all three movies
3) Ghostbusters. Need I say more?
4) The physical mini figures and vehicles are actually pretty cool. Considering how expensive legos are anyway, it's a bonus to get the figures. With many places now offering the sets at half price, it really isn't too much of a difference compared to normal lego sets.
5) I love when you put on a character that on screen instructions come up for their corresponding vehicle
6) I was wondering what you do with all the coins. In other lego games, you buy characters and vehicles. Being that this one you need the expansion packs, I like how you can upgrade the vehicles so the coins still have a purpose.
7) While we leave the physical characters on the base, you don't have to do that. If you look around on ebay you can just buy the bases to save on some money
8) If you don't want to buy some characters, there's an option to "rent" them in the game for 50,000 coins (not real money). We've done this a few times to avoid buying characters we didn't want to use all the time.
Some drawbacks:
1) Being that you are moving characters around all the time, you need to physically do this with the base. The cord is about 7 feet long, but doesn't reach our couch. That being said, I bought a 10 foot usb extension cord. From what I've read online, it should work.
2) When you rent a character, it's only for 30 seconds at a time. I wish they would charge me more of the in game coins for a longer period of time.. perhaps a minute.
3) Unless I am missing something, there is no 100% to keep track of. You can see how many minikits, red bricks, coins per world, etc. that you've collected though.
Overall, I kept saying I wasn't going to buy this game because the expansion packs make it so expensive. However, after playing for roughly 5 hours, I'm already in love with it. My wife and I both are really enjoying it. Yes, it's a lot of money, but we just bought a bunch of the expansions as we see how cool the game really is. I'm happy we took the chance and bought the original set.
However, I stand by my opinion - this is the coolest Lego game to date. You can play any character, at any time. You don't need to stick with the initial three character, although the cut scenes will still show them. It's great to be able to switch out characters at will to accomplish a task without having to unlock them first. I really like that. Mixing and matching characters from different worlds is fun, and being able to explore the worlds with any character you want is awesome. By including the home worlds of the different characters - DC Heroes, Lord of the Rings, CHIMA, The Lego Movie, Scooby Doo, etc. - Lego has made a game that is absolutely massive. Each of the different worlds has multiple areas as well. Atlantis sits below the DC world; the Back to the Future world has the past, the present, and the future; there's an underwater area below The Lego Movie. Add to that the fact that there are additional story boards to play when certain new characters are added, and you have a game that is seemingly endless.
The vehicles are also great. They are built using in-game instructions, and can be built and rebuilt to unlock different abilities. This is important to keep in mind when trying to solve a puzzle that you don't have a character ability for. The vehicles can be upgraded by spending the gold bricks you collect. It's nice to see these bricks being put to use and not just collecting them to unlock more of the game.
The game is large enough and enjoyable enough to warrant the initial cost and the addition of a few expansion packs, but you could easily sink $300 or more into this game very quickly and still not unlock everything. That seems unreasonable, unless you happen to be a collector and simply must have every Lego minifigure available. You might justify it then. The game itself is brilliant, and well worth a five star rating, but the cost can quickly drop that rating down to a two. There is, however, a way around some of the expense, which is why I rated the game three stars. If you do a little research, you'll find that many characters in the game have overlapping abilities, and only a certain few have unique abilities. There is a way to discover this within the game itself. The Vorton computer in the central hub world has a listing of many of the characters and it lists each one's abilities. Armed with this knowledge, you could pick and choose your characters carefully to get the most abilities with the fewest characters. This would save some considerable expense. Read each character's ability set carefully, as there are characters with abilities that you wouldn't expect. For instance, Scooby Doo can summon a robot to help solve some puzzles. Add to that the fact that upgrading vehicles can unlock abilities that you available characters lack, and you'll find that you can make do with a smaller investment in the game. Still, you'll need at least one character from each home world to be able to access it, and any additional story boards available. That means that, including the three characters you get with the starter pack, you'll need about a dozen or so characters to play through most of the game and accomplish many of the tasks.
Bottom line, I think Lego Dimensions is a fantastic game and worth investing some money in. The game play is unique for Lego and brilliantly executed, and the available areas for exploration are endless. Unless you're a collector, however, be careful. If you only invest in the characters you need for the worlds you want to play, the game can be fun and rewarding without being an enormous investment.

Based on the other games where there are literally hours of content, and hundreds of characters to unlock. The extra home worlds that you get to play through are really limited in scope and there just isn't that much to do in them. It's fun driving around a tiny gotham but in compairison to lego batman 2 its so small. Same with the hobbit/lotr worlds. It feels on par with a DLC pack for one of the other games is about the amount of content that you get.
And the distinct pay walls of having a character than can break a door or pathway is annoying.
After playing for a number of weeks it just feels like I'm being nickle and dimed for unlocking characters with particular abilities that would be free in other games.
The physical aspect is cool and its neat to rebuild the cars and portal as you compltete levels but its not worth the cost of buying the figures.
All in all, its a solid game, and the figures are solid, but I find the other games with hours of content, replayability and hundreds of 'free' unlockable characters just a better investment.
y tienen que jugar el mundo de portal y ghostbusters!!!
