We received these as a Christmas gift for my son from my sister via Amazon. We were excited to expand our Duplo collection to build taller towers, and immediately opened them up, mixed them in with our existing Duplos, and started to build. My four year old soon became frustrated; blocks wouldn't stick together, or they'd click together reluctantly and then break apart and make the whole tower explode. Once I joined in to help, I noticed the feel, weight and texture of the new blocks was off. Although they resemble Duplo, are marked as Lego, and arrive in a genuine looking box, these are FAKE and do not work. My husband and I then spent several hours sorting them back out from our good ones for return.
Although we'll receive a refund, I was not impressed with Amazons response. I was told the first step is to leave a negative review, and then supposedly they'll "look into it" once that's received. We have a prime membership and order a lot of items from Amazon, and I now have less confidence as a shopper that what I'll receive is genuine. Very disappointing!
Pictures to show the fake blocks compared with genuine. Fake on top, real duplo on bottom. Markings are different, some of the fakes have weird numbers (7) carved into the bottom, and the tower is made from the fakes and depicts they way they don't tack properly together. I had to work to force them to connect, and you can see from the photo that they don't line up. They were also quick to burst apart.
UPDATE: In my opinion, these are absolutely counterfeit Legos. They do not fit with real Legos or the base plate. They are more cheaply made than our other Legos. If you hold one of each up to a light, the light will shine right through these. The design on them is different. The real Legos have an "X" pattern on the inside of the single block, these do not. Lastly, the imprint of "Lego" inside each peg is crooked on all of these. When I look at the real Legos the imprint is always perfectly horizontal.
Why is something that is "discontinued by the manufacturer" always in stock from some seller? Easy, because they are not real Legos. Do not buy these.
I don't understand how some people are receiving different blocks, but the set that we received were real DUPLO blocks and worked perfectly well with the ones we already had from decades ago. In fact I will be ordering another set for my 3 year old's birthday next month, he has (too many) other toys but he plays with these daily and multiple times a day building dinosaurs, boats, houses, rocket ships and towers! Thanks for the set, I honestly believe some people must be getting completely different sets- the one we got was absolutely normal, same colors and great quality that we are used to from the LEGO brand. A real head scratcher for us!
