My nine-year-old had a blast assembling this Lego set and needed no adult assistance for the few hours it took (yay)! The two characters are cute, and the set has lots of space for other characters to be part of the imaginative play. The only "downside" was that this set did not come with a hard copy of the instruction manual like usual. Instead, there's a code you scan to get an online version, which allows you to pivot and rotate each graphic. My child loved this feature, but since I'm "old," it would have been a bit more challenging for me. Overall, a great set for the price!

While the set it good aesthetically, it has the below negative aspects:

1 - Written instructions are not included. You must install and use Lego Super Mario app to access instructions and follow them on screen. The environment-savers win in this aspect, but it ultimately removes some enjoyment and ease for the builder, and it could delay building it until screen access is available.

2 - Beware that a child may be disappointed if you do not also have/purchase the Starter Set, as this is an expansion kit. I thought the set was adequate on its own, as it is quite good and large, but boy was I wrong about that.
