I love all Lego video games have course most have some drawbacks like the bonus levels, stories too long or too short, some are more complicated than others. I am a 50 years old male and this Lego video games never gets old, when my son was younger we played everyday, he is now 14 but switched to PS4 war games, he did ask if he could play with me soon so I am looking forward to that. Anyway, about this Harry Potter years 1-4 I am very frustrated that there is no student in perils finder (like the other newer harry Potter) still looking for one more, that's why I rated it four stars instead of 5. Lol I hope they will continue making more Lego video games in the near future but it seemed that they are slowing down making it, think we have new star Wars coming soon.

This game is a fun game and a great addition to our family library of Lego branded games available for the Xbox 360. However, we bought this after the Lego Lord of the Rings game and have some gameplay complaints concerning the source material. The Lego Lord of the Rings game has really spoiled us because the licensing included actual music and dialogue from the original films. The Lego Harry Potter game includes NO dialogue whatsoever and instead relies on character gestures and physical likenesses to convey an idea. Additionally, after using the easy character switches in the LotR game, the way that you toggle through characters in the HP game seems extremely cumbersome if you're looking for a specific character to switch into for a task.
All in all, this is a fun game for a true Harry Potter fan but it's missing some of the refinement that I feel that Lego games are capable of with the right licensing agreements.

I've been playing this game with my twin 7 year old daughters for the past few weeks and it has been a real blast. Like most LEGO games, this game manages to convey the story of the associated property (in this case Harry Potter) in a humorous and child friendly manner. The Harry Potter films can get quite dark and the LEGO game designers are able to convey some of the emotional potency of those moments in a more lighthearted manner.
As for Game Play, this game was a little tough for my girls at first. There are a couple of puzzles that have to be resolved in a particular order or else you'll get stuck on a level and have to restart. This doesn't happen too often, but it did happen early and it led to some minor frustration and a need to check a "walkthrough" video for a little help. The puzzles are fun and challenging for 7 year olds, and I imagine this would be true for players up to about 11, and the in-jokes are entertaining for the rest of us.
A solid entry in the LEGO series of games.

This new game in the Lego series is great fun for Harry Potter fans, both adults and children alike. The gameplay is similar to the previous titles---Star Wars, Batman, Indiana Jones---but this setting and characters will probably appeal to girls more than the other games. No worries, there is still plenty of destruction and mayhem for the less gentle gamers.
The 4 levels correspond to the 'years' at Hogwarts (or the movies, if you prefer). The game is extremely faithful to the storyline and there are great mini-movies interspliced with the actual gameplay. If you are familiar with the books or films, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of recognizing both characters and situations. Once you have played through the 4 levels, you have the ability to return to specific scenes to search for other items or just wander around Hogwarts looking for fun. A fun feature for the kids was the ability to "design" their own character by selecting each component of a Lego minifigure from a 'closet.' There is a LOT to be done and found in this game, including 10 short bonus levels. Success on the various levels is dependent on the learning and application of the appropriate spells; different people have different spell abilities as well. 100% completion, as in the other Lego games, will prove to be challenging yet FUN.
We played this on xBox 360 and has no issues with freezing or crashes. Not sure what the other reviewers might be experiencing but perhaps it is related to their console instead of the actual game...?

My husband is an avid video game player, and I am an avid lover of most things Harry Potter related, so we decided to give this game a try. The trailer for it was amusing enough, but the game is about a million times better than we could have hoped for. Having played the Star Wars Lego game, I found it to be a bit stiff and boring, as did my husband, but we both LOVED this game!
Some highlights:
1) Getting to blow things up! When you use spells on certain items, those items then release a bunch of coins. It gets crazy addictive. Seriously.
2) Co-op mode. This game lends itself very well to being played by two people. The split-screen that sometimes occurs when two characters separate was a little annoying at first, but I quickly got over it.
3) It's not that difficult. You get to explore the castle in a sort of "sandbox format" that allows you to travel wherever you want, whenever you want instead of following a strictly linear path. You can follow a linear path, and there are ghosts that lead you in the direction you need to go, but you can explore until your heart's content if you don't feel like following the ghosts.
4) Seeing all the characters in Lego form. For some reason, it is highly amusing to see everyone running around as a Lego, and they did an amazing job transforming the Potter world into a Lego playground.
My husband and I were VERY impressed with the look and the play of the game. While my husband normally plays more adult games, he really loved this one, and even played it on his own while I was out. I haven't played many video games since I was young, but this was very easy to pick up. It's fast-paced, but not too fast, and it goes over nearly everything from the movies from years 1-4.
This is an intelligent, fun game for all ages to play. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially anyone who is a fan of the Harry Potter books and/or movies. We can't wait for years 5-7!

My seven-year-old daughter and I played through this game together over several weeks. It was well worth the money - she had a great time and still asks me to go back and play more, and it helped approach the series in a charming way that made showing her the first movie less frightening. But it can be a frustrating game to play - the puzzles aren't always as easy to figure out as they could be. However, if you have a cell phone handy, you can look up walkthroughs for each level easily enough. This also helps with finding characters, which will make free play a lot more fun.
The actual game has 4 years x 6 levels = 24 levels, plus some bonus levels. There is a surprisingly detailed rendition of Hogwarts, and a full cast of characters. The way the game introduces each spell is well done - you get to focus on one and use it, then need it for that level's challenge. However, not every spell is equal - I found myself using Wingardium Leviosa a lot, and Expecto Patronum almost never, for example.
I wish it was as easy to play as the Star Wars Lego games were, but it's well made and faithful to the movies.

I'm furious with thus order it said it was compatible with Xbox one, I go to load it and low and behold it won't work, so again I've wasted my money on a game that cannot be played, my poor son is so upset he's been waiting so patiently for this game, he finally gets it and he cannot play it.

Kids can't stop playing it, and when they are in bed, the adults can't stop. Great fun and very happy. Would get another lego game in a heartbeat. Quick shipping. Case was broken but the game is always in the console so it doesn't really matter
