Be sure you buy this kit on sale. When finally put together, you get a very intricate, detailed model, but it's not very big - doesn't feel very substantial for the price.
That said, if you are building up your orc army, this is a set you will want...

This set was a disappointment. There were a number of times when putting this together when I scratched my head and asked, "why?"
Having put it together, I'd say a reasonable price for this set (compared to other LEGO brand sets) is about $75.
This set includes 841 pieces spread out between 5 bags. The minifigures are also separated between the bags which speeds building time.
What you can't tell from the box is that this set is actually 4 separate parts - the throne, the bridge, and two small platforms.

BUILDING TIPS:
Sections of this set are very weak until all the bricks are placed on it. I'd recommend using a hard, flat, level surface. Also, this set makes use of black, dark brown, and brown bricks. A desk lamp and a good pair of eyes are a must, it can be very hard to distinguish between the three in the instructions.
The three instruction books come packaged with a sheet of cardboard, no paperweights are required.

BONUS:
This set includes an orange brick separator.

MINIFIGURES:
This set contains 8 minifigures, including the Goblin King, two Goblin Soldiers, a Goblin Scribe (has small legs instead of full), three dwarfs (Ori, Nori, and Dori), and Gandalf the Grey.
The dwarfs have small legs. Ori (brown hair) has a grey cape and a purple shirt, and has a battleaxe, Nori (ginger hair) wears a brown shirt and has a sword and a club. Dori (grey hair) wears a red shirt and a red cape, and is equipped with a sword and a flail. Gandalf has a staff and a sword. One of the goblins has a scimitar, the other has a bone axe. The scribe has a book.

DECORATIONS:
Part of the reason this set had me scratching my head was because of all the random decorations (some loose) tossed in.

I gave it this rating because it has a lot of really small pieces that are easy to overlook when reading the instructions. It takes a long time to put it together. Other than that, it's great!
It's realistic. The characters are ugly enough to be real. It comes with a lot of extra weapons. It's just an awesome set!
I would recommend this to everyone who likes Legos and the Hobbit. I would NOT recommend this for children under 8 due to the myriad of tiny pieces.
My 14-year-old was given this set for his birthday. This review was dictated by him. He was very skilled at Lego sets above his age range.

The Lego Lord of the Rings theme sets are all great in different ways, and this one is somewhat of a "filler" set that collectors will want in order to flesh out a complete world for The Hobbit. I normally consider a Lego set a good value if it is priced near 10 cents per piece; this set is therefore a little high in cost for 841 pieces. Regardless, the minifigures alone make this a must-have.

This set has pieces assigned to numbered bags, so it's simple to get building without any necessary pre-sorting. Aside from the great minifigures (Goblin King! Dwarves! Gandalf!) and weapons, there are several neat movable components: a collapsing bridge, a catapult, a launchable trap, and more. The throne and other sections all have nice detail as well.

The build is not difficult, but smaller kids (or fat-fingered adults) might get a little aggravated trying to place all the very small pieces where they go. The set when finished is more compact than you might expect, which is why I am categorizing it as "filler" which would be used in conjunction with the other sets from The Hobbit to make a complete play world.

This product is definitely one of Lego's best Hobbit sets. It is full of special functions like a breaking bridge and latter, hidden treasure and a moveable scribe's chair/bucket/thing. If you've seen the movies, then you know what I'm talking about. The set also includes a full sized Goblin king, with posable arms and hands. This set utilizes many minifigures, and it is not hard to create cool battle scenes, without having minifigures that have no purpose. Even though caging one of the minifigures (I choose Ori the most because he is more timid and less battle ready) seemingly puts them out of the game, he is still a part of the set and has a purpose. As with most lego LotR and Hobbit sets, this set perfectly epitomizes the Goblin Town we see in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Looking at it, I am just feeling the scrappiness. However, the build is still structurally sound and built for play. Also, the build comes in four seperate chunks, making the build seem larger or smaller based on how you position it. This also allows for versitality and diversity in the set. It took me a little over an hour to build this set and would recommend ages 8+. Even though the price is high because Lego no longer makes this set, it is worth the expense.

Let me start of by saying this set is four pieces. The throne is the largest piece followed by the bridge and then the two sections on the right of the throne. I got this set on sale for $60 but it is worth $100.Throne: the throne is really cool. The Goblin King fits perfectly on his throne and the secret goblin treasure pushes out from under it. The bridge is cool and there is two functions included. You can collapse the bridge and send the ladder tumbling. The cooking pot is pretty cool (I filled it with extra bones and a skull). There is also a small catapult and a cage. Overall, the whole set looks eerie just like it should. The skulls and bones all around give it a evil-like feel. The set comes with three goblins who are much cooler than the Urk-hai. Two are warriors and the last is the goblin scribe who flies around in his barrel. (He has the short legs). Dori, Nori, and Ori come with this set exclusively along with all the goblins and their king. Gandalf comes with a sword and staff. Good set.
