Having just gotten back into Legos (probably hadn't bought any since Star Wars: Episode 1 first came out) my thoughts may definitely not be the thoughts of a typical AFOL (Adult Fan of Lego). Still, as a fan of monsters, turn of the century styled vehicles, slightly steampunkish battlers of the supernatural, and zombies, the Lego Monster Fighters theme was enough to attract my attention and force me to lay down some cash to obtain the entire series. The general story seems to be that the Lord Vampyre (that is how Lego spells it) is attempting to gather together a series of artifacts called Moonstones, gem like stones that each feature an icon representing a different monster. When 6 of the stones are collected together, the earth will be cast into permanent darkness, allowing the realm of the monsters to crossover into the regular Lego world. The Monster Fighters are attempting to keep this from happening. Pretty fun plot for a Lego set, if you ask me.

This set runs between $30 and $40 dollars retail, but does contain enough stuff to give it some good play/ display value. It comes with the two main characters, Lord Vampyre and Dr. Rodney Rathbone, as well as a zombie to drive the hearse. Of course, it also comes with a fairly large hearse and a neat little motorcycle for Dr. Rathbone to fight some monsters with. Does this set have some bite or does it really suck? Here are my thoughts:

Positives:
* This might be the best introductory set, as it includes vehicles for both factions and the two main characters along with a zombie and a coffin. Lots of play/ display value and packaged with some fun accessories.

*The minifigures are really nicely done. Dr. Rathebone's outfit is detailed, has a mechanical leg, and is armed with a very cool rapier and revolver.

OK, so I love the monster fighters line. The concept is awesome. When I first saw this thing I was very excited and knew I had to have it.

PROS
1. The overall design is great. It's like a retro-old school hearse. From the clever use of bones on the engine to the cool curtain like details on the windows it looks cool.
2 It compliments the rest of the collection great. What else would Lord Vampire drive!? A hearse of course!
3. It goes together very quickly and there are no tedious parts to build that are boring.
4. Creative 'action' with the ejecting Lord Vampire (but more on that in the cons.)
5. 3 minifigs. Minifigs are always a plus.
6. The flames on the monster fighter motorcycle are cool.

CONS
1. It's a little pricey even at $40.00. If you are paying more than that it's not worth it.
2. It's pretty small. I thought it was going to be a lot bigger.
3. It's pretty delicate. I don't know how much actual play you are going to get out of this thing without it falling apart.
4. The 'Lord Vampire' ejecting action doesn't really work at all. I don't get it. He just kinda flops onto the hood of the car. Plus, you can't put the lid on the coffin if you hope to eject him. Putting the lid on totally defeats the purpose.
5. Lord Vampire doesn't come with his cape.
6. The vampire hunter 'vehcile' is just a motorcycle with basically no build.
7. The wheels are too close together. The wheels should be further apart.

All in all, a good set. It looks cool parked in front of the haunted house. Not sure a little kid is going to get much play out of it because it will just keep falling apart. It will def. be a unique addition to any set and will be popular no matter what just 'cause it is so unique.

Enjoy and keep building!

I managed to find this hearse at a shopko near me.I'm very impressed with this set. It includes Rodney Rathbone, lord Vampyre, and a zombie driver. I'm going to start with Rodney. He has a grey bowler hat, a pistol, and an epee. Lord Vampyre has a double-sided face, one angry, and one semi-angry. The zombie driver is a repack of the one from the zomie set, so nothing to say, really. Rodney's motorbike is really cool, I like the flames on the side of the bike. The hearse is the main vehicle of the product. You can shoot lord Vampyre from his coffin in the back. Overall this is a great set and I would recommend this to any lego fan. Get one before they're all gone!

My son thinks this is one of the neatest LEGO creations. He plays with the hearse and the characters all the time. I know this was a great purchase. Little boys of all ages will have a fun time playing with these.

I love everything spooky and this is one toy that I will sit and play with my kids. My son (almost 8) loves that I will play with him and his sisters with this set as well as a few other lego sets! I would definitely recommend for the Lego lover and anyone who likes spooky things!

This item is retired, so get it while you still can! Even if you just let it sit in your closet for a couple years, you'll definitely get a decent return on it. For the little builders, it is unique and quite fun. Unlike legos' other vehicles, such detail and effort went into the design of this car. I especially love the bones that are supposed to be exhaust headers.
