Overall it is a good build. My kids very much liked the spinning flame throwers (controlled by a technic gear in the rear of each elbow). It has great pipelines that run from the tanks to the torso and then from the elbows to the from of the flame throwers. The cockpit windshield and roof open. The legs, elbows, shoulders and ankles are adjustable (but not the knees). There is a disc shooter in each shoulder. There are thrusters on the back of the legs. There is storage for Kai's weapons on the side of each leg. The tanks on the back are very cool. The mech has a ton of cool detailing and lots of stickers. The flags coming off the top are classic and makes me wonder if there aren't a few fans of the movie Ran at Lego.
There are six mini-figures: Kai the fire ninja, Zane the ice ninja, a mother and son screaming in terror, and two villains (Jelly and Hammerhead).
The set is fairly stable and easy to position. Not everything stays in place when you move it. For example, sometimes the shoulders fall to the low position on their own. It would be nice to have movable knees at times, but this would probably make it too floppy.
Overall a very good set for any Ninjago fan.
Hammerhead - such a cool minifig. And the flames - I don't recall ever seeing the Lego flame done in two colors before, so this makes it pop.
The details on the mech are nicely done, the build is a bit more sturdy than I had figured. The thing is impressive on our table, towering over the other kits we've been building from both Ninjago and Star Wars.
My son has always been a Transformers fan, so this one is one of his favorites from our Ninjago sets. We never watched the cartoon, but we're really getting psyched for the upcoming movie.
And the disc launchers are a nice change of pace for us, since we're pretty bored with the normal bolt shooters or the stud shooters that have become so prevalent on Lego kits lately.
If you are a Lego household like we are, or Ninjago fans, this is one of the "to get" kits.
He took two days to build it, not because it was a challenge... he was able to build it without problems (he is 10). It was because after he built the top half he was just in awe of it, kept talking about how big it was, and he took it to his grandmother's house to show his (incomplete) handiwork.
Then the next day he put on the legs and the thing has been going everywhere with us, its been in the car, and all over the downstairs part of our house.
He really likes to show how durable it is, he will twist the arms in multiple 360s. Now, it is just legos, I'm sure if it fell it would be in a million pieces, but, unlike some kits this robot stays together pretty well. The joints are very secure.
The only mistake he made was that he put two of the leg stickers on upside down.
He is sooooo stoked about the movie now. But more than that, he really enjoyed building this robot.
This kit is one of the larger Ninjago Movie kits at 944 pieces which includes an impressive six mini figures. They are: the Ninjas Kai and Zane, two bad guys, Hammer Head and Jelly and two civilians Lauren and Henry.
I have had a lot of fun building this Mech and I am looking forward to building many more of other Ninjago Movie kits which are now becoming available.
The build was involved enough to keep him busy but easy enough for him to do it on his own.
There are some unusual build technic that we do not find in typical lego city type constructions (joint for arm legs etc) which made it that much more fun.
Once the build was done, my son spend hours playing with it. There are several minifigs and a lot of play options.
Overall a very good set
