Spa 56 Granular Chlorine is a spa and hot tub sanitizer that can be used on a regular maintenance basis or as a strong shock. Made with sodium di-chlor that features a strong 56% pure chlorine, this spa treatment comes in a granular format that does not need to be pre-dissolved and does not add unwanted calcium or leave residue. Leisure Time Spa 56 also destroys foreign organic material that comes from human use, making it a high-quality chlorine source for spas and hot tubs. Broadcast directly into spa water with jets running. Maintain free chlorine levels between 2-3 ppm. Wait 5 minutes after adding to soak. Use caution and follow instructions when handling spa chlorine. Chlorine works best if pH and Alkalinity are balanced in spa water. Update : 3 yrs later and still use this daily. Now I just dump a lid full in after each use. I stopped using the blue bubble wrap and just rely on the thick lid that came with the tub. If I forget to use this product, the water does get gross pretty fast- like dead frog/swamp smell. To fix that I shock the tub by dumping like 3 lid fulls in and turn on the bubbles and let it run for 24 hrs- I also take out the filter and spray it clean with the garden hose and replace again.
I would say it took me a good 3 weeks to get the tub into parameters using spa 56, defender, renew, metalgon, and ph spadown, I have finally gotten my parameters in line and I add chlorine (about a cap full) every 3 days on average based on my water tests, I tried the strips too hard for me, I ended up buying a chemical test kit which seems to be easier for me to actually read the ranges vs guessing with the leisure time strips.
