COMPARE LEM JERKY CANNON VS NESCO JERKY GUN
LEM JERKY CANNON:
1. LEM holds more meat.
2. The LEM Flat nozzle produces a strip of jerky that is not as wide and flat as the Nesco flat nozzle, thus allowing you to have better control over how the jerky is cooked. In other words, the LEM Jerky Cannon nozzle is not as wide and thin as the Nesco flat nozzle, the cooking time is more forgiving in case you get distracted.
3. The LEM Jerky Canon comes with a flat and round “stainless steel” nozzles, and a cleaning brush. However, I only use the flat nozzle.
4. The LEM Jerky Canon is aluminum, a commercial quality product. Aluminum is more durable than plastic, can handle high temperature washes, and is safer for food preparation.
5. No meat gets past the plunger
6. Easy to clean
NESCO JERKY GUN:
1. My Nesco jerky gun came with three plastic nozzles: flat, double flat, and round. However, I only used the flat nozzle.
2. Easy to clean
1. Not constructed as well as the aluminum LEM Jerky Cannon. If it drops off the counter, the plastic will break.
2. Meat gets past the plunger.
3. The Nesco hold less meat, which means having to refill more frequently.
Both the LEM Jerky Cannon and Nesco Jerky gun come with a few packets of jerky seasoning. However, this is not a reason to make a determination on which jerky maker to purchase.
I did quite a bit of research before deciding to purchase this particular jerky shooter. There are cheaper models, but they're made of plastic and it seems (based on reviews) that they're prone to breaking. This one is aluminum and has a sturdy build quality to it.
Why should you buy any jerky shooter? Simple; jerky from ground meat is awesome. I make sliced jerky on occasion but I far prefer the texture of jerky made from ground meats. In fact, If you've never had it, you should try it because it's awesome. Make a batch the hard way before buying this if you aren't convinced. (The hard way to me has been to roll out the meat between two sheets of waxed paper and transfer to the drying rack as a whole big piece and break it up after dehydrating) Then, after you find out how good it is, then come back here and buy this.
I was initially concerned about the meat being too thick to push through the nozzle, but my ground turkey came out easily. It makes beautiful reasonably thick and relatively consistent slices that are ready to be dehydrated. One suggestion I would make is to remove the leftover meat from the nozzle and shape it by hand before putting the last rack in the dehydrator. There's quite a bit of meat left in there at the end of your run. It's not a design flaw or anything, it's just how it is. Also, if you've never made jerky from ground meats, it's *very* important to use a good cure, as it not only retards spoilage, but it supposedly also helps with the texture. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it without hesitation. We'll see how it holds up in the long run.
I love the hell out of beef jerky, i would eat it every day for every meal if i could afford to but it's just so expensive. Never really thought about why, but someone told me, if you think about it, it takes like 3 or 4 pounds of meat to make 1 pound of jerky..... never occurred to me.... but explains its high cost. So i started making my own jerky by thinly slicing roast and marinading, while this was a little cheaper, a lot of work for saving a little. Then i remembered what my dad used for making jerky on his smoker, and got this. Take regular ol' hamburger and makes really good jerky strips or sticks.
I don't even know if i used the seasoning packet yet but the different nozzles let me do the the flat or the round sticks. I like the REALLY dry jerky so for the sake of my time i use the flat one almost exclusively.
This is high quality, unlike my dads plastic guns that would break on him after just a few uses, this thing is sturdy, easy to use, and thanks to the included brush.... even easy to clean.
