I bought this grinder specifically for the purpose of grinding up raw food for my puppy (which includes bone). So far I have run about 30 pounds of chicken quarters and 2, 12+ pound turkeys, bone and all, through it (all chopped to fit in the grinder of course). It handled MOST of the bones no problem but got stuck on a few longer leg bones (once we chopped them into shorter pieces they went right through). Larger pieces of skin also had a tendency to clog up the grinder.
One thing I did find out was that while the directions say the meat should be under 40 degrees when you grind it FROZEN meat also has a tendency to clog so they mean cold but NOT frozen!

Over all the grinder worked great, it ground up all of the meat and bones, you just have to get use to how the meat needs to be (temp, size) when you are grinding. It was super easy to fix any clogs and I really like that when the grinder gets clogged it kills the power to the motor. It is also very easy to clean up afterwards.

Update (12-19-12): used it for the second time last week did another 40lbs of chicken and some turkey necks. The turkey necks clogged the grinder every single time but all 40 lbs of chicken quarters (bone, skin and meat) went through without a single clog!! Very happy with this purchase

Update (3-24-13): still going strong, 5 months and almost 300 lbs of chicken and bone later. We have gotten much better at grinding up chicken quarters and chicken backs, no clogs at all the last time we used it. The key seems to be to make sure all the chicken is thawed, we do put frozen beef liver and chicken gizzards through the grinder with no issues.

Very pleased with this grinder. Have had it now for a few months and essentially had bought it to make cat food. It grinds up chicken thigh bones without a problem and that was one of my main concerns that it be powerful enough to do so. We have also started to use it to "make" our own hamburger which once you start doing that you will never go back to store bought. The rate at which it grinds up food is fast. I found I had to have all my meat ready to feed because it ground just that quickly. The machine itself is sort of heavy, but I generally do not have problems lifting it. It cleans up nicely, I do use my bottle brush for some of the pieces to make sure and get to those hard to reach places. I would certainly recommend this machine to others!

First off, I love the circuit breaker, which shuts off the power to the grinder if meat gets trapped in the auger. If the KitchenAid stand mixer I had been using to grind meat was equipped similarly...I wouldn't have burned out the motor. Alas, the KA is not well designed and it is now a piece of junk in the basement. When it came time to choosing a new appliance to grind meat, I decided to buy a dedicated machine, not something made to do a million and one different kitchen jobs. There's something to be said about heft, and this LEM grinder has weight to it...which is a good thing. It is powerful and grinds up meat the way I want a meat grinder to work...fuss-free and no-nonsense. In comparison, the KA grinder attachment would whine shrilly and grinding meat was slow and laborious. All in all, I think that this grinder was a worthwhile purchase and it's looking like I'll be quite happy with it. Time to make some kielbasa!

This is my first grinder. The included instructions are woefully inadequate and what you do get are poorly written and inaccurate in several places. The grinder is not rocket science, though...you can figure out assembly. Use less instruction booklet and more common sense. It's actually not difficult. Complete head disassembly and cleaning everything is not too bad(NOT in the dishwasher). Definitely clean before using. And don't forget you're going to need food-grade silicone spray to keep the moving parts lubricated and protected. These things are too expensive not to care for properly. I hazard to guess some folks started grinding immediately upon unpacking. Your first grind would be machine oil laden. My first grind after a thorough cleaning was boneless chuck roast, both coarse and fine. The grinder zipped through the grinding with flying colors. The texture of the meat was perfect. The motor was not taxed at all. This unit is probably overkill for my modest needs given its heavy duty nature, but I suspect it will last a long time.

I have tried it out a few times and it works great! I bought this one because it was recomended and I woukd also recomend it further.
Have been using it for several different sausages and to regularly prepare my raw cat foot.
I prefer the meat to be very cold, slightly frozen. One time it must have been too frozen, which did not work good with the intended plate. Changed it to a bigger plate and then all went through.
With my cat food I am grinding all kinds of stuff. Raw meat, gibblets, hearts and especially chicken legs with skin and bone. It works awesome. I am using the smaller plate for the stuff I want to be smooth, like the liver and heart - but I also need bigger junks of meat to get the cats working and keeping their teeth healthy. For that use I am taking the "sausage stuffing plate"
The result is a good mixture of smooth and chewable food.
Before this grinder it was a 2-3 hours job involving my kitchen knife and my KitchenAid. Now I can prepare ~7-8 kg (approx 17 lb) in just 30 minutes.
