I have used it twice on smaller 5-10 lb batches in the week since I received it. The first batch did not go so well, but that was my fault as I initially put the knife in wrong. FYI, there are no instructions that come with the unit, I had to use YouTube to figure the issue out. Once that was fixed it was a breeze. I did 8 lbs last night, 5 lbs of chuck and 3 lbs of pork belly. I cut the chuck into one long strip and put it in the freezer for an hour before grinding, this is not required, but it certainly does not hurt. The first grind of the 5 lbs of chuck literally took 6 seconds.......6 seconds, which amounts to 60 lbs a minute, much more than the 17 lbs advertised. It was amazing and a site to see, made me wish I had bought an entire cow to just grind for no other reason than to watch the machine in action. Immediately after the first grind, while the meat was still really cold I did a second grind, which worked well when I was able to get the meat in the chute effectively, but getting the meat in is a major issue due to a horrible design flaw.
The issue is this. On the newer models, like the one I received the hopper has a safety guard that sits approximately two inches off the hole leading to the auger, as shown in the pictures. This guard makes it a pain to feed the auger.....it gets in the way and can slow you down if you are doing huge batches of cubed meat or a second grind, like it did to me. It was no t an issue on my first grind because I was able to cut the meat into one long continues piece, but if I were doing a larger batch it would have certainly been a huge issue on the first grind. I did not notice this safety guard on any of the pictures or videos I watched prior purchasing or even after. I have found out that is because those pictures and videos were of the old model.
I called LEM to see if there was a replacement hopper (and shorter stomper to go with it) without the dumb safety guard. That was when I found out that the newer models had this feature, which is due to the larger 3 inch feeding hole (old was 2.25 inches). I guess they figured some idiot would shove their hand down the hold and get it eaten up. I call that natural selection, but their lawyers do not agree. The individual I spoke with did say i could potentially buy the older hopper, but again the feeding hole is much smaller, so it wouldn't sit tight and I'd lose the ability to feed more. I was also told that some people cut off the safety guard, but that voids the warranty and the stomper would be too big as it would easily clear the auger. On a side note, I have yet to need the stomper, but you never know.
This issue is almost a deal breaker and enough to make me consider returning the entire unit and buying from a competitor who also makes a high end large #32 machine. This is the reason for the two star deduction, which I considered making three What is the use of such a large awesome machine if they prohibit you from feeding meat to it fast enough?
I bought this to make my raw prep easier. I currently have 6 dogs so prep takes FOREVER. I also breed and wean puppies onto raw so ground meat is usually better in the beginning, but since puppies have to be fed balanced meals every time I was stuck with kibble...until now! This grinder cut my prep time way down and made portioning SO much easier. I just bought a giant rubbermade tote and I grind everything into it for all 6 dogs and the puppies, mix it up, and then portion it out. It takes longer to weigh and bag it than it does to grind it! This grinder worked flawlessly! The best investment I've made in a long time. I also *highly* recommend getting the foot pedal.
The only thing I will say is be wary of Amazon's suggestion to buy the meat lug along with the grinder. It doesn't fit under the neck! You won't be able to have the grinder and the lug on the same counter/table you will have to hang the grinder off of the counter and put the lug on a lower surface somehow. LEM didn't think that one through. Luckily I have an island with wheels I just put the grinder on the island and the lug on the table. But if you don't have a setup like that you might want to find a lug that is shorter.
DO buy the foot pedal though if you're going to be doing a lot of starting and stopping or pausing to reload the meat pan!
It also is fast and efficient at grinding. We double grind our hamburger at the coarse and fine setting and it had 0 issues with this. We also used it to make turkey sausage and it had 0 issues, once again. Buy this grinder.
Would highly recommended getting the asesesory kit for this grinder. It comes with a foot peddle to turn the grinder off and on, brushes to clean it, package taper, and spray to keep it looking new. Made it very easy to use the the grinder and clean it. Looking forward to using it. Also Lem has a lot of products to go with this grinder. This not a wimpy grinder and is to be used alot. At this time I would recommend this grinder.

In my first use, I ground up 200 pounds of pork. It did stop at 150 pound mark as it got very hot but then after about 20 minutes did the rest of the 50 pounds. This is actually good as it will turn off before overheating and burning out your motor. I think if I made the pieces a bit smaller and loosened the fastener a bit it might have got through all 200 without stopping. It is also sooooo quiet for a grinder! The other one I used shook the pictures off the wall.
In the end if you are grinding around 100 to 200 pounds at a time, a few times a year like me, this will serve you well.
