I got this as a replacement and it is quite a bit bigger than the 3/4 hp version. It's more powerful and grinds faster although not by much compared with the 3/4 hp version.
The fit and finish on the 1hp grinder I got is very poor. The first one I received was just awful. The feeding pan was dented and twisted and could not be fitted well onto the grinder intake opening. The housing of the grinder was put together poorly. The upper housing did not fit the big flange on the front and was obviously forces onto frame resulting in the sheet metal getting bended and buckled at several places. The motor has some problem as well. After switching it on, it takes several seconds for it to start running. Sometimes it won't start at all and I have he flip the switch a few time. Also the grinder head wiggles when installed to the motor housing. So I retuned it and ask Amazon for a replacement.
The replacement came promptly and has a better fit and finish except that the front plate (where the power shaft comes out) was left with a very rough finish (or really unfinished). The power cord was not attached properly on the back of the machine but I was able to fix it. The switch on the replacement works properly. The fit and finish is still not that good but better than the first one.
After the first use, I found the second one is garbage. It gives out a very loud grinding sound and the whole machine shakes. I put some cooking oil on the moving pats and that didn't fix the problem. When I took the grinder head attachment off, the vibration and noise went away. I check the grinder head and it seems fine as I can tune it by hand a little and it felt smooth. It turned out the power shaft coupler on the motor housing is not centered. It wobbles as it turns and that drives the machine "crazy" when the grinder head is attached.
Since I need the grinder to make cat food, I will have to ask for a third replacement. I expected a machine that is better assembled. Well, it is not a Hobert but it costs much less than a Hobert. Still with two "beat up" samples i am loosing my faith in the brand.
Finally, the third replacement is of good quality. It switches on fine, runs smoothly and quietly. No obvious defects. I will put it to use and will update this post if needed.
