...11 months later. June 2014:
The Linear Compressor died. Good news it has a 10 year warranty. Bad news the repair guy said that unfortunately "a lot of other parts are shot too and need to be replaced". He also mentioned that most likely it will happen again due to the parts LG used. The parts won't arrive for a week, so I guess the parts are in some foreign land where there is no type of expedited shipping for idiots who buy this thing.
LG customer was pretty rude overall and even laughed when I mentioned that I'm losing close to $500 worth of food from my fridge and freezer. While I didn't expect sympathy, a snicker was pretty uncool.
I realize there are always "lemons", but the support I received will definitely keep me from buying an LG product again especially when there are many other options to choose from.
Besides the fact my fridge didn't even last a year, I gave one star due to the lack of support I received. My grandma's fridge has lasted 50 years and counting. Please step it up and take some pride.
6 weeks later, yes 6 weeks later
With NO fridge, parts still have not arrived, and LG is saying that they are not sure when they will have the parts needed. Apparently the warranty is doing me no good now.
The distributor has been awesome and said they'd take the fridge back and trade it for a non-LG model...and gave me $200 for all the groceries that spoiled. Thanks for nothing LG, I've moved on and leave my story as a warning to others.
I recommend if you do not follow people's advice and buy an LG, make sure to have another non-LG fridge on hand so you can transfer all your food to when you LG dies
I bought this from a major hardware store chain and it stopped cooling after 13 months. It was 1 month after the warranty expired. Despite numerous visits, technicians couldn't figure out what the issue was, but they charged us anyway.
Technicians in my area are no longer with LG, therefore we cannot get repair service under the 90 day warranty that we paid for.
Even though the repair was never completed, it appears LG seems to consider the warranty period to be 90 days after we were charged, not 90 days after the unit is fixed (the unit was never fixed).
LG customer service frequently disconnects me, and is not at all surprised that their fridge failed after the warranty expired. As far as they are concerned, I'm trying to revive a 25 year old fridge and not one manufactured in 2013.
I have attempted to leave a review on the LG site, but they reject all negative reviews. I noticed that other review sites pull reviews from the LG site as well, so they have artificially inflated reviews throughout the internet.
FYI - print out your response emails from LG, there's a bit of a glitch with their email system and it can affect (alter) your records and documentation over time.
Please keep all of your documentation when you get repairs, all of us will need it one day.
Lastly, If you schedule a service appointment over the phone, you typically do not get documentation for your service request, and they will not provide it to you.
As a last resort, they called Sears to see if they might help with LG. They were WONDERFUL and even though it was not their problem, they replaced the bad fridge the day before Thanksgiving and saved our holiday! Now Mom & Dad have a brand new Kenmore!
We will never buy anything LG again.
