I finally decided on this LG set and wound up buying from somewhere other than Amazon (BB) for $$509.99 (washer) and $569.49 (dryer) + after "instant" 15% advertised discount, plus $69.00 delivery and NYS tax for a grand total of $1,245.27 - all inclusive. The delivery came quickly and the delivery guys were very nice, very quick and very professional. I would have liked stainless steel but I wasn't about to pay hundreds more for aesthetics - eh...

The Good: Price! Value! Techno-wizardry interface, boops, beeps. I've never experienced such clean clothes from a single wash or any machine outside professional dry cleaners!!! Fantastic device in terms of cleanliness. Even my dress shirts that I either scrub excessively at the collar with stain removers normally before washing (and still don't get completely clean) came out spotless on wash #1 (with steam)! Wow. All the clothes have great, great smell - very different from my old clunky traditional top-loader. Very quiet cycle. Lots of features available at the push of a button. Certain programs disable certain options in an effort to not ruin certain types of clothing - nice. Lots of temp options unlike old ones where you're sometimes limited to certain temp combinations.
The Bad: Techno-wizardry interface, boops, beeps (takes some getting used to). It's not like the old-school turn 1 knob, select large-med-small, hot-cold and push to start. My wife was daunted at first but now she's happy with the setup. The wash time takes significantly longer than a "standard" top-loader - 15 - 20 minutes more maybe. Add steam, and you're looking at over an hour - yikes. I can live with it as long as my clothes keep getting super clean like they have been. A bit taller than normal machine but whatever.
In the end, I would HIGHLY recommend this product for anyone looking for a new washer. I have no clue why you would (and could easily) spend double on a steam setup. All the stores have the $1200 washers front and center at their displays - no thanks. I would have ranked this 5 stars except for the longish washing cycle times.
I could not be happier with the products. While it is true the washing cycle takes longer than a top load washer, the end result is amazingly different. The matching dryer seems to work more efficiently than our old one and makes up for the time difference between loads. My toddlers socks came out white and the dirt stains gone. Even some of the old stains were removed. There are a lot of fancy dials and sounds on the machine however once you get accustomed to the settings, it is very easy to use. The pre-wash and steam features are a nice bonus. I especially like the top area to load the soap and fabric softner. The load capability seems quite large to me. Several pairs of jeans, pants and tops can go in at once. While running, the machine is fairly quiet. This is a beneficial feature since our laundry room is located in the center of our home. Is it wrong to fall in love with an appliance? If so, guilty as charged. Now if only they could automate the folding process I would be in heaven!!
