Fail after only 6 months of ownership and LG WILL NOT DO WARRANTY REPLACEMENT
1 out of 5 stars
Fail after only 6 months of ownership and LG WILL NOT DO WARRANTY REPLACEMENT
Update:I am updating my review to 1 star because the monitor now after only 6 months of ownership will not keep an image for more than 10 minutes at a time. The screen goes black and all buttons unresponsive and I have to unplug the monitor and plug it back in.This problem happened with the last monitor I had from a different company-- The common thing is that both these monitors were super cheap options from their respective companies. Now, this is happening now, but I noticed that when I first got the monitor and tried to use the Picture in Picture feature that this would happen after a few minutes the entire screen goes black and monitor is unresponsive. It happened consistently when and only when I used PiP.. This was right after receiving it in the first week or two!A few months ago I discovered that I can turn HDR on in the monitor, and when I did that, after a month it started doing it for HDR mode... I was not able to keep HDR mode on .. so I turned HDR off..Now, it won't even stay on for more than 5-10 minutes without turning off. When I called LG they said they don't do warranty replacements, which is ridiculous because they should stand by BRAND NEW PRODUCTS. I don't want a defective product repaired and sent back to me when I bought a NEW product. I want a NEW monitor sent back to me, I can send them the old one if they wish, and they can repair that and do the QA thing and do whatever they want with it.But I want what I paid for, which is a new monitor, not a refurbished one.Given the only option though I was going to do it. But then they're not even able to provide me with a professional packaging for the monitor so it doesn't get destroyed. The most they would do is send ONLY a cardboard box! LOL. Everything is left to me to do it myself. No thanks.. Then I asked if they have arepairmen that can come to my house. They said they only do that for TVs.This is a horrendous experience to say the least. Now when I'm trying to save money I have to buy a new monitor because LG won't stand behind their products. Here is my advice: DO NOT BUY MONITORS THAT ARE UNDER $800. Both ones that were cheapos (this one and another $250 4K 28" monitor) failed on me. The LG 34" Ultra Wide that I have that I paid $800-$1000 .. I've owned two and they've both worked FOREVER. And others as well. Only cheapos have failed. Here is the original review:This is a great and affordable monitor, but I was initially (I stress: INITIALLY) disappointed with the quality of the white balance and brightness and color in general given that this is both an LG, and an LG UltraFine monitor. The color was WAY too blue on the brightest automatic setting (You have the different modes, like Cinema, Game, etc. you know what I'm talking about).I noticed that anytime I took a photo of the screen with my camera to post on social media the colors were WAY off in the photo, like WAY off. That's how bad the white balance was.. Green grass was like a weird blue green. The monitor has RGB color saturation which unlike what you'd expect with normal saturation settings the colors don't bleed when the saturation is set to 100% ... So I was able to fix the color AND brightness by setting the Color Temp to custom and then setting red and green to 93%, and blue to 54 with brightness set to 100.Everything else is whatever you want. I have Super Resolution set to off because all that does is make the image really sharp (Think Photoshop unsharpen filter) which makes it look photoshopped/not good. With those settings the monitor is great. But because the colors are so horrid out of the box that's why I dinged it from getting 5 stars. The stand does not have height adjustability which is not ideal because for most desks this will result in horrible ergonomics. I have a sit/stand desk and I had to raise the desk much higher than I would normally want to have good ergonomics.. Also the stand is so low that while my Mac mini fits under the monitor, the Mac Studio I plan to get is too tall to fit under the monitor. What I mean is this is a huge monitor right.. So it will take up a LARGE horizontal space on your desk.. There's only 3 1/2 inches of clearance under the screen to put your Mac mini or whatever other items you may have (I dunno .. phone/Apple Watch charging stand? whatever you guys might have)..Update: I added a picture of this to my review so you can see what I mean. It's literally 38 inches wide, so it's wide. You're gonna be sacrificing desk real estate unless you use a monitor arm which are not easy to find since this uses the larger 200mm TV VESA MOUNT sizing. It's a great monitor with some caveats that may or may not matter to you depending on your set up. My desk is 80 inches wide so when I do get the Mac Studio I will just rearrange my desk so I can put the Mac Studio to the left of the monitor or something since it won't fit underneath it.Like I said, I didn't even bother with a monitor arm because the only ones I could find that have 200mm VESA size mount are the kind that it's a stiff pole where the monitor is fixed to the pole with screws that tighten it on. You would not be able to move the arm around at all so I figured I would save myself the headache and just use it on the stand it comes with.Another option if you don't have a sit/stand desk is you can actually mount it on the wall like you would a TV. but then you can't move the desk around much, which isn't usually a problem for most setups. All in all it's an amazing bang for the buck at $500. It's a no brainer.

The reason for this awesome buy is that I have an old good system (12Yrs old) that I did some upgrade and I wanted to see if One solid 4k monitor would be compatible with my present system. My two 24” 1080P LG monitors also (12yrs old) die on me and I was using a 27” 1080P TV that I also used for PS3 & PS4 video games, but the quality was poor when using windows and I was having a hard time trying to adjust the colors to my satisfaction, so I got sick and tired of the ugly visual so I decided to look for a better solution to my problem. After numerous consideration on which monitor will fit my needs, I search for various brand types and sizes of monitors and instead of choosing two monitors I came across the LG 43” 4K model # 43UD79-B and it looks good but something was missing when I check the specs, it did not have the HDR10, so I waited to see if LG would come out with the same 43” 4K size monitor with HDR10, and long and behold, they did. WOW! By this point I am so excited, the new LG 43” 4K model # 43UN700-B is the complete monitor that fills my needs, plus the price was a perfect fit as well, less than $600 dollars.
So I decide to purchased and that was a good decision, this monitor is awesome!. Also important to mention that this monster of a monitor is huge and prepare to have a desk to accommodate this beast. You might be wonder is this monitor is compatible with my old good system? The answer is HECK YES, it is working flawlessly, the resolution is by far better than before and I can connect four different devices and have each one display at the same time on the screen. My set up is one desktop, one PS3 and one Laptop, and the 4th one will be another High end more robust Desktop(coming soon…). I must say that it was easy to set up this awesome monitor as well, easy installation and the end result is…It is big, bright and now I have a 4K and doubled as a TV as well, it comes with awesome remote control.

Well in my opinion, if you considering the size and the low price, this monitor is an amazing awesome value, as well great for those who needed to work with multiple documents, videos, applications, etc…-the 43” 4K LG 43UN700-B with HDR10 will give you plenty of real state space.

Remember that this monitor is best for productivity, if you are a hardcore gamer this is not the monitor for you, also that does not mean you cannot play games on this monitor, you can!

Thanks, LG for making an awesome monster of a monitor it was worth it waiting for the right monitor to come along my way, and also thanks to Amazon for providing an awesome delivering of my product.

Well as you may notice I am very happy with this purchase and I highly recommended it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 43” LG 4K Display Panel, great for my Business productivity
Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2020

The large screen size and high resolution make the working much easier and enhance the productivity. I imagine a lot of people would use the large screen for gaming or watching movies. I believe the system should be able to deliver the experience. The build quality is very good as expected. The response time is reasonable. I ended up buying a second one.

I would give this one 5 stars.

It replaces a 4k TV with hdmi input that was doubling as a computer monitor. That one had a very nice crisp screen, but every few minutes it would black out, and loose sync with the video card, depending on what was on the display... making it irritating and almost unusable. This one is not quite as crisp, but close... and it has not blacked out at all... so it is usable for me. I do a fair amount of spreadsheet work and a fair amount of text and this one is ok for that.

As for some quirkiness: The included quick start manual seemed to be for a slightly different model, the stand attaches differently than described, but no problem, I was able to easily figure this out.

Not all monitor settings are available from the remote control. Some are greyed out.

The model seems much heavier built than the TV it replaced. Box and all weighed almost 50 lbs.

Interestingly, Amazon chose to send this to me by UPS, rather than Prime delivery (which I am a member of). The box was slightly damaged on arrival, but the product itself appears fine. I would feel better I think if what I perceive as a somewhat delicate product was not shipped by ups or other common carrier but was completely handled by Amazon.

This product comes with a 1 year mfg warranty, which I think should be longer. So, I purchased the extended warranty offered by Amazon from Asurion which goes out to 4 years. I think a relatively expensive product should have a long warranty.

On the whole, this product seems to be doing the job for me, and I believe I will keep it.

Amazons 30 day return policy is better than some big box retailers, but check with Amazon before you buy to make sure no restocking fees will apply.

This product would be difficult to repack, with all the protective wrappings for each component, should it be necessary to return it.

    More interesting tidbits:

    1. Right clicking on the windows desktop brings up a menu with several options, one of which is: "NVIDIA Control Panel".
    2. I made some changes there, which increased the quality of the default picture. What I changed:
    a. Under "Change Resolution, sub section 3: Use NVIDA color settings. Output dynamic range "Full".
Picture is crisper, blacks are blacker, generally better.
    3. I am using 60hz refresh rate.

I originally reviewed this at 4 1/2 stars, but with the above changes, I think it rates 5 stars.

Update 7/2/22: The more I use this device, the better I like it. YT 1080p videos are wonderful. I have had no problems with blackouts. When using the settings described above the picture is sharp and colors are good. Based on performance to date, I recommend this product.

Things I like: size, color, clarity detail, easy setup, multiple inputs (4x HDMI, Display port, USB C) handy remote for changing settings.
Things I don't like: This was a refurb, but I didn't realize that when i bought it... product description did not make it clear. I don't regret getting it, but this fact was not transparent and I scoured the entry looking for it. Box and packaging was a little beaten up but functional. No paper manual in box. But most annoying was it didn't come with a baggie of hardware for attaching the monitor to the stand. I had to go to hardware store and figure out what bolts would fit. And lastly, it seemed like the the refurb folks did not restore default settings for the display, so I was seeing a bluish tint and a low-color intensity, which had me thinking this was why it was a refurb. But I got that all cleared up and I'm enjoying it now in all it's full 4k glory. 4 stars due to lack of HW and poor out-of-box experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Monitor, Unbeatable Value - my thoughts after a few weeks
Reviewed in Canada on December 27, 2020
I have had this monitor for about two weeks now and thought it would be good to provide some info that I might have liked to have before buying it. Summary, great monitor, great value for money particularly at Cdn$689.

To put things in perspective, I use it for work type applications - programming, word processing. email, web browsing, photo editing, video editing and youtube watching. I am not a gamer, so I cant comment on its appropriateness for that.

    My Comments:

    1) Its hard to find out what video cards support 4k resolution. I ordered a ASUS GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5 HDMI DVI Graphics Card (GT1030-2G-CSM) and it does do 4k 60Hz RGB 8 bit over HDMI for $120. Any GT 1030 should do. This one was nice because it is fanless which I prefer to keep noise levels down.

    2) I also ended up getting a second card ASUS GeForce GT 710 1GB GDDR5 HDMI VGA DVI Graphics Card (GT710-SL-1GD5-BRK) for $60 to get additional monitor connections (I had an older card but Nvidea drivers don't play nice with a combination of new and old cards). I tested the GT 710 with this monitor will do 4K 60Hz YCbCr420, so reduced color resolution. Good enough for video watching, but unless you already have this card, a sightly higher end card like a GT 1030 would be preferable.

    3) The monitor supports HDR10. Windows seems to. If I reduce the frame rate to 29Hz the GT 1030 can output 12 bit video (?) but at 29Hz mouse movement is sluggish. If I throw windows into HDR mode, you do see the enhanced contrast, but it applies to everything - not just HDR media or applications designed for HDR. So for now, while its great that the monitor supports HDR10, Windows 10 does not seem to fully support it. Not a fault of the monitor! Maybe you would have better luck with a much higher end video card.

    4) Color, contrast, brightness - excellent. Uniform over the monitor surface, other than around 1/8" at the edges which is slightly brighter. Not a problem though. I haven't tried to color and contrast calibrate it yet, but the image is very close to a CRT monitor on my second video card which I use as a gold standard for photo editing. This monitor is bright! I have the brightness turned way down. It does have a strange behavior that when you change something like frame rate, the monitor brightens and then settles back down after a few seconds. No problem for me - I use one input always at the same frame rate. The matt/dull as opposed to shiny surface is is excellent for work applications. Great for watching videos too. 4k videos are stunning!

    5) Connections, control. Multiple HDMI inputs - great feature, but I don't use more than one connection so can comment on how well input options work. I do not use the USB connections either. Might be useful for plugging in a keyboard and mouse, but a bit awkward to get to behind the monitor. So not great for temporary connection like for a USB Flash stick There is a funny upside down joystick control at the bottom of the monitor. A bit awkward. Way better to use the supplied remote control to adjust things.

    6) Speakers - OK and good enough for uses like video conferencing, hearing sound with videos etc, but like any speakers in the back of a monitor, cant compare to high-quality separate speakers driven by a good amp. If your use is for theater type applications or for boardroom applications, you might want extra speakers. I don't fault the monitor for this - its intended use is a monitor, not a speaker!

    7) The supplied stand - nice and solid. Bottom of the monitor is about 3.5 inches above the desk. Its a good height, but not adjustable. The Vesa mount interface is sunk into the back of the monitor so you would need a mount that does not exceed the Vesa specs in terms of size. This is probably a good feature because it would allow the monitor to be mounted very close to a wall.

    8) Size and workflow: WOW - As other have pointed out, it takes a day or two to get used to, but I would never go back to a smaller one! My face is about 21 inches from the monitor surface. You do have to look left and right to see the edges and up and down for top to bottom, but way easier that two side by side monitors. The screen space is great! I find I size application windows to a size appropriate for the application. Some bigger than the height of a normal monitor, some less. It is wonderful to have multiple applications fully open when programming - Eclipse IDE, output windows, remote desktops on target machines etc. Or sorting and display windows for photography, or timeline and huge preview windows for video editing. I had looked at at the standard height but widescreen monitors, either flat or curved. I glad I didn't go for the them. The enormous screen space of this monitor is unbeatable.

Bottom line: I am delighted with the monitor and would highly recommend it of you have the space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this monitor
Reviewed in India on June 19, 2023
I'm in love with this monitor. I purchased it Around 1 year ago and no problem till now.

There are few drawbacks also which can easily overcome like:-
    - you need a bigger desk to put your monitor to look nice.
    - you need to keep a little bit more distance from monitor than usual.
    - For initial 2-3 weeks you you might feel struggling putting things on your desktop and do neck movements, but once you find perfect place and understand how to use big monitors, you'll start feeling comfortable with everything.
    - The biggest problem you'll get with this monitor is emitting brightness from 43 inch monitor. For white colors from every corner of the monitor makes a bit uncomfortable for your eyes, but it can easily be solved by using Dark Mode or Dark Color themes and dark desktop background.

Overall I would say it's a must for productivity, I would highly recommend it. Also it's totally value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great monitor that has changed my workflow

I upgraded from two 27” HP IPS displays (owned from new since 2015) to this LG 43” a few weeks ago. I had originally intended to upgrade to a curved ultra wide, but all of the footprints seemed large, and would encroach on my desk space. I also realized through using the two 27” monitors, that I hate turning my head from left to right when working. So based on a few videos on YouTube and photos online, I ordered this monitor.
So far I’m very impressed. Admittedly when it arrived I thought “What have I done?!” – this thing is BIG! I have a 50” LCD TV in my office to the left of my desk, and this looks almost like another TV on my desk. However, within two days I was sold on the benefits, and will never go back to more than one large monitor. The footprint is not an issue (I do have a 3ft deep desk, so this may be why), and combined with some cheap and simple software solutions (KVM, window manager), this is an easy monitor to set up and use. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. On an almost daily basis I find myself using the PBP mode, and still have flexibility to add further inputs as required. I rarely use PIP at the moment.

    Pros:
    1. Multiple inputs. I use a moderately powered i5 PC for everyday stuff (writing, internet, email etc.), and a more powerful i7 laptop for graphic design, learning design, and video editing. This monitor in Picture-by-Picture (PBP) mode, combined with Synergy (a software KVM solution), allows me to seamlessly use both inputs, with the PC desktop stretched across two inputs on the bottom (DP and HDMI), and the laptop on another (HDMI). This means two HDMI inputs are still free, and four inputs in total are viewable at once in PBP.
    2. Speakers are decent for built-in solution. I listen to music on a dedicated audio system in my office, so I was able to remove my speakers from my desk and use only the monitor speakers. I have used them for listening to video and audio, and in video conference calls, and I have 0 complaints.
    3. USB. Unlike other reviews, I’ve had no issues with my USB. I have the monitor connected to the desktop with a 10-foot USB-C cable. I have a 4-port USB 3.0 hub plugged into one of the monitor USB ports, and plugged into this I have a webcam, USB receiver for keyboard and mouse, second wired keyboard (used as a macropad), and USB gamepad receiver. I have a USB 3.0 card reader plugged directly into the other USB port on the monitor. All of these work without issue.
    4. Remote control. I love this. You can quickly change inputs, PBP settings, and volume with the remote without having to mess around with menus on the screen. Every monitor should come with a remote!
    5. Real estate. The desktop is 3840 x 2160, which is akin to having four 24” 1080p monitors stacked in 2x2 (this is what the 2x2 PBP setting looks like). That’s a lot of space! In order to use it efficiently, I installed Actual Window Manager. This allows me to have multiple desktops (Linux users will be familiar with this), and allows you to set up custom “snap” frames on the desktop. This is essential – using this, I have my main “workspace” set directly in front of my eyes, with other windows I might need snapped to different areas around this workspace. See my attached photos. This reduces the amount of up/down movement your head and/or eyes need to do, while still allowing you to take advantage of the full screen size.
    6. More desk space compared to the two 27” monitors, and neater cable management. The monitor itself comes with a handy cable management clip on the back that I fed some tubing into. Combined with the integral USB hub, and speakers, I’ve been able to eliminate a lot of cable clutter from my desk.

    Cons:
    1. The height of this monitor may make placing a webcam on top of it a challenge without proper ergonomics. I have a webcam on a boom arm that allows me to reposition, but haven’t had any major issues because of the depth of my desk. YMMV.
    2. Graphics card. Older machines may not be able to drive a 4K resolution to run this monitor on a single source at fullscreen. There is a workaround for some older cards whereby you can set a custom resolution, with the caveat that you drop refresh rate to 30 or below. This may be acceptable for some, for others it might mean a new card is also required, so factor in that expense.
    3. I ordered new cables that were designed for full 4K bandwidth. Older cables may have issues with this monitor. Again, additional expense that might need to be considered.
