I bought LG's BD610 Blu-ray Player at Walmart on Black Friday for $50. The first few blu-rays I tried were fine but over the past few months I have noticed the discs skipping (image jumps to black then resumes) and now the movie cutting off completely. At first I thought it was the discs themselves, since the player is brand new, but the issue has persisted and gotten worse with all discs I tried so it is definitely the LG player. The message "invalid format" often appears on the screen with some static-y noises and the image will cut off and on until the entire player powers down... this happens with both blu-ray and dvds and most often when the movie is paused or has been running for several minutes. I also own a 42" LG 42LK450 42-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LCD HDTV so I assume there is no compatibility issue there. I've only had my LG blu-ray player for 3 months (and probably only watched 15 movies on it) and it is completely out of service. I've contacted LG and hope that I will get a replacement/refund on this shoddy product.

EDIT: LG has a 90 day warranty that I missed by a few days. I spoke with Walmart's manager and they exchanged my player for the same model. I brought it home and it's having the exact same problem. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK ELSEWHERE, LG BD610 IS PURE CRAP.

I have been looking for a "bare-bones" blu-ray dvd player that doesn't try to connect to the internet everytime I inserted a blu-ray dvd. This unit doesn't even provide such a connection in the first place - great if you just want to get straight to the movie. To me this even speeds up the loading time because most players pause to ask you if you would like to connect to the internet? & I have to answer "NO" with the remote every time a new disc is loading. Don't get me wrong...there is nothing bad about streaming video or the other options on the newer players,(I have one too) but it's harder to find a basic player these days with Blu-ray.

* Update* 11/24/13 - I have upgraded to a 3-D player - I am still using this unit in a recreational room connected via HDMI cable for television viewing; as well as a regular Compact Disc player, connected to a stereo system using the supplied RCA audio output jacks. (so the television doesn't have to be on) I have noticed most of the newer dvd players have omitted the regular RCA audio output jacks. (those red & white connectors) Which ever brand you choose, and if you still want to use your DVD player as a Compact Disc player too, be sure these jacks are still provided on the replacement model.

I have had this blu-ray player for over 5 months now. Have had no problems what so ever with the device playing discs. Works great, have watched many dvds and blu-rays on it -over 100- with no problems. My only complaint is some of the dvd's I play say wide-screen but come up full screen or to a square in the center of the screen(42" lcd tv) not sure what that's about. But over all besides some of the major complaints on reviews it is a very good and cheap blu-ray player. Paid less than $40 on sale at Wal-Mart. All in all you get what you pay for with electronics, I don't expect this to last for ever for the price but it works........

I purchased a refurbished version of this product from Amazon for only $25. It is by no means one of the fancier Blu-Ray players, but for somebody just looking for a basic starter player, this is a great one to go with. The refurbished version works just like it is new so it might be worth the savings to give it a try.

I've only had this player for a couple of days, but I'm very pleased with it so far. It does what it's supposed to do, i.e, play your Blu Ray and DVD discs. I've heard a lot of complaints about Blu Ray discs taking a long time to load, but this one does the job pretty quickly. The USB port is very handy, and the player supports a wide range of video and photo formats. It does not have internet capabilities, however, so if that is a concern for you, pass this one by. For me, however, this player was an ideal choice. When I saw it for $58, I couldn't pass it up!

This was bought for my daughter for her birthday. It is a basic player, but as I bought the refurbished one, the price was great! If you are a techie, you probably want one with more features. But if you just want a good player at a great price, this is the one.

I had to try the refurbished blu-ray player. When i received it, hooked it all up. It would not play the blu-ray dvd i put in, it would spin up and down. Then make some horrible old dot matrix moment sounds. finally erroring out and ejecting the disk. I tried some normal DVD and they play'd just fine.
The shipper was really great and provided a return label to send it back to them for refund.

This is your basic BluRay player, it also plays regular DVDs, expect nothing more.

It does play BluRays pretty smooth, and skips DVD Menus (I'm not sure if that's good or bad sometimes) going directly into the movie.

Doesn't have WiFi, doesn't support anything, I think you can burn your own homemade movies to a BluRay or DVD and it will play it, but it's got to be a certain file.

It's got a USB port but it doesn't run movies off of it, not really sure what it's for, if you do know please comment and let me know.
