How does such a seriously flawed product make it to market? LG boys and girls: Can you say "design?" Can you spell "quality control?"
In case, I've been unclear: Don't buy this thing. If you get it as a gift, rethink the relationship. Above all, unless you enjoy digging around behind your components several times a week, tying to id its power cord among the many, pull out said cord and re-plugging it in--- without pulling a back muscle, sit near where this basic modern piece of "electronics" is plugged into the wall outlet. Otherwise, whatever marginal exercise you gain trekking back and forth across the room will be more than offset by concurrent blood pressure spikes.
This box does not have Wi-Fi capability, but if you have a router near by like we do, you can plug an ethernet / cat 5 cable into it and have Internet connectivity. We own the Roku, so this was a little redundant.
The player is easy to use, the remote is not complicated and set-up was a cinch. It plays Blu-Rays nicely and the lag time for loading is nothing out of the ordinary for a box in this price range. I bought the LG to interface with an LG flatscreen. Both work together great. The Blu-Ray box has a tiny footprint so it's nice and there was no problem finding space for it.
This is a straightforward, no frills Blu-Ray player by today's standard. It does what it says and if you do a hardwire hookup, you can take advantage of more online services through LG Smart TV.
It just works, so we are happy.
As a computer guy, it is disturbing to learn a blu-ray player cannot properly handle blu-ray movies. This is doubly ridiculous considering that storage is dirt cheap these days. Why in the world would LG try to get by with less than what is required? If not for this short-sightedness , the device would be 5 stars. Wake up, LG!
Longer take; Seriously, avoid this blu-ray player
When it works, it works fine. Unfortunately, there appears to be ~50% chance that the player simply locks up when trying to play a movie. And when it locks up it locks completely up with even the power button becoming unresponsive. The only thing to do is unplug the unit. If you happen to have it in an entertainment center with all the cables routed through the back and not easily accessible, this becomes a HUGE pain in the the rear.
Even when it works the UI is ugly and poorly designed. It takes entirely too many button presses to just play a movie you inserted.
I went on LG's website and couldn't pull up a manual - but I was later informed that I entered the info incorrectly on the website. I printed it out and was very happy to have it because whatever you purchase usually includes a manual and you are advised to read the manual before using the product!!! (This policy is a growing "pet-peeve" of mine in that too many manufacturers believe everyone has a computer and/or smartphone, etc. and thereby, feel they can save a little money by not providing manuals. (I'm renting a Toyota Carolla while my Camry is in for repairs and there was no manual in the car. I was told that if I put my smartphone over the code on the driver's window, I could obtain a manual that way! Ex-scuu-se me, but I don't have a smartphone, and I question whether manufacturers are attempting to save trees ... or are they just cheap?!?) Never assume your customers have all the latest electronic toys! If manufacturers insist on listing on the cover page of manuals that the documentation should be read before you use the product (using the product incorrectly could void the limited warranty, etc.) THEN THEY SHOULD PROVIDE MANUALS! (I registered the player by phone, but if you don't receive any registration documentation you can register on-line.)
So, as of this writing and having owned this LG (Life's Good) BP220 Network Blu-Ray/DVD/All-Region player since May 18th when it was delivered, I have no complaints and would most definitely recommend it!
