|Product Alert: IPS (In-Plane-Switching) is a technology for LCD displays that offers users wider viewing angles and bolder colors by allowing more light to pass through the panel. As a result, IPS panels can exhibit a slight glow around the edges and corners (also known as light bleed), which is entirely normal.

I have both a 34UM95-P (the flat $900 version) and this 34UC97-S (the $1,300 curved version). The curve is very, very subtle. Sitting in front of it at about 2 foot away from my face, it didn't seem too different from the flat version. The curved edges were closer to my face but still further away than the center so don't expect the distance from face to monitor to be 1:1 across the screen.
This monitor had significantly more lightbleed in the corners than the 34UM95-P and think this is because of the curve. Lightbleed is normal on IPS monitors but it should never be so much that lit colors distort. But in this case, the light bleed was so much that a dark grey-red color at the edge of the monitor would turn orange. Not good if you're a professional editor.
Under well-lit images, however, this monitor is superior to the 34UM95. The curve pulls you in, if only slightly, into the environment in front of you. Movies, in their traditional format, are amazing, second to none. They go to full screen and it is as if you're watching it in a theater. Unfortunately, as soon as the image goes dark, the lightbleed is too noticeable to ignore.
So in conclusion, the advantage of the curve does not outweigh the cons of lightbleed and cost. Make no mistake, a 34" 21:9 IPS monitor in this resolution is amazing and in my opinion, it is the best monitor setup, even better than 3x 27" monitors. So for that perfect 21:9 monitor, I recommend the 34UM95-P. That is, until LG releases this monitor with an OLED display. An OLED version of this monitor would be simply mind-blowing. If you have to have a curved monitor, wait for that to be released in the next year, don't get this.
It is not fair to compare this curved LED monitor with my FlexScan EV2736W, as the later one is for graphic design. However, the color accuracy was not bad, as well as the sharp text due to the resolution.
I'm fine with the none-VESA mounting. Overall, I would give a 4 stars rating.
My Viewsonic monitors are also IPS technology. IPS is much better for uniform colors than TN monitors such as the Samsung 34”. Yes IPS monitors have some light bleed, as some have complained. The 34” LG has much less light bleed than either Viewsonics I have. The lightbleed is very minimal that I can’t even notice it with a solid black screen.
The colors pop even with the matt screen which is preferred for more accurate color representation; although I admit glossy screens do make pictures pop more they are not good for when you are trying to make adjustments to pictures and colors.
Yes LG does not include a VESA mount (something that should be standard or included in the box), but they do provide one for FREE. All you have to do is call them. When you do call don’t bother with trying to figure out what numbers to push, just keep hitting zero and you will get to talk to a person. The other con with the VESA mount is that you have to provide a monitor serial number before they will ship one out. This means you can’t order the monitor and call to get a mount sent on the same day, resulting in unnecessary delays in being able to mount on an arm. Unfortunately the VESA mount is not shipped with bolts so once you get the mount you will have to run to the store to get some M4 bolts (length determined by the bracket and your monitor arm attachment thickness.
Once you install the screen split driver, and put a shortcut to the driver icon on the bottom taskbar, all it takes is a series of clicks to cycle through the split options. This is a really cool and easy to use feature.
The back panel inputs are awkward to reach and the USB ports are buried and unreachable when the back cover is installed. I would have preferred better access without a back cover but reality is I plug in my monitor cables and the USB dongle for my mouse and I then have no more need for access so this isn’t that bad. If I need an extra USB port I have plenty of others available elsewhere that are more accessible (even if the ports on the monitor where in the perfect location). Another con is that the monitor does not come with the USB 3.0 Type A to Type B to even connect the monitors USB ports to your computer (cable matters makes and sells great cables on amazon).
I hate the white cables on the display cables and power supply. However to route the cables through my monitor arms I needed a longer cable anyway that I bought separately.
I don’t use this monitor for switching between different computers or inputs so I have no basis to review those features. I also turned off the speakers to use my own.
The stand it comes with is not height adjustable (Doesn’t matter for me since I use it on arms) but the stand is much more stylish and compact than many of the stands out there.
Awesome, awe inspiring beautiful display, really impressed skeptical friends.
Screen Real-estate, sweet big screen, a photographers or gamers dream (If you don’t have much space make a cardboard cutout to make sure you have room)
The attached photo shows the LG 21:9 aspect 34" monitor with a Viewsonic 25.5" VPxxwb monitor. This was before I receievd the VESA mount to put it on my monitor arm.
VESA mount not included – Free but must call to get after you have monitor serial number and it doesn’t come with M4 bolts
No height adjustment but I don’t use the stand.
Doesn’t come with a USB 3.0 Type A to Type B cable to connect monitor USB ports to computer
