My Viewsonic monitors are also IPS technology. IPS is much better for uniform colors than TN monitors such as the Samsung 34”. Yes IPS monitors have some light bleed, as some have complained. The 34” LG has much less light bleed than either Viewsonics I have. The lightbleed is very minimal that I can’t even notice it with a solid black screen.
The colors pop even with the matt screen which is preferred for more accurate color representation; although I admit glossy screens do make pictures pop more they are not good for when you are trying to make adjustments to pictures and colors.
Yes LG does not include a VESA mount (something that should be standard or included in the box), but they do provide one for FREE. All you have to do is call them. When you do call don’t bother with trying to figure out what numbers to push, just keep hitting zero and you will get to talk to a person. The other con with the VESA mount is that you have to provide a monitor serial number before they will ship one out. This means you can’t order the monitor and call to get a mount sent on the same day, resulting in unnecessary delays in being able to mount on an arm. Unfortunately the VESA mount is not shipped with bolts so once you get the mount you will have to run to the store to get some M4 bolts (length determined by the bracket and your monitor arm attachment thickness.
Once you install the screen split driver, and put a shortcut to the driver icon on the bottom taskbar, all it takes is a series of clicks to cycle through the split options. This is a really cool and easy to use feature.
The back panel inputs are awkward to reach and the USB ports are buried and unreachable when the back cover is installed. I would have preferred better access without a back cover but reality is I plug in my monitor cables and the USB dongle for my mouse and I then have no more need for access so this isn’t that bad. If I need an extra USB port I have plenty of others available elsewhere that are more accessible (even if the ports on the monitor where in the perfect location). Another con is that the monitor does not come with the USB 3.0 Type A to Type B to even connect the monitors USB ports to your computer (cable matters makes and sells great cables on amazon).
I hate the white cables on the display cables and power supply. However to route the cables through my monitor arms I needed a longer cable anyway that I bought separately.
I don’t use this monitor for switching between different computers or inputs so I have no basis to review those features. I also turned off the speakers to use my own.
The stand it comes with is not height adjustable (Doesn’t matter for me since I use it on arms) but the stand is much more stylish and compact than many of the stands out there.
Pros:
Awesome, awe inspiring beautiful display, really impressed skeptical friends.
Screen Real-estate, sweet big screen, a photographers or gamers dream (If you don’t have much space make a cardboard cutout to make sure you have room)
The attached photo shows the LG 21:9 aspect 34" monitor with a Viewsonic 25.5" VPxxwb monitor. This was before I receievd the VESA mount to put it on my monitor arm.
Cons:
VESA mount not included – Free but must call to get after you have monitor serial number and it doesn’t come with M4 bolts
No height adjustment but I don’t use the stand.
Doesn’t come with a USB 3.0 Type A to Type B cable to connect monitor USB ports to computer

It's wonderful to have so much screen real estate without the discontinuity between two monitors. I use this for "office" tasks: the way I write, it's ideal to have four full windows open side by side, and with this display I can do that while leaving Mail open on the MBP's screen at the same time.
The curve is hardly noticeable, but probably contributes to the impression of a uniform big screen.
On the mildly negative side, this isn't of course 4K resolution, and the difference between what I see on the big screen and the resolution on the retina MBP screen next to it is noticeable. If I were doing video editing or the like, this might be a problem, but for me this really isn't an issue: the screen is not so big that the pixelation is noticeable. The experience is at least as good as on the 30" cinema display in my office, and I'm quite happy with it.
It would be nice to have height adjustment. Not sure why that isn't here, given that the flat screen equivalent has it.
The plastic cover over the cables on the back is no problem for me, since I don't plan on changing the cable connections often. The one thing that might produce problems in the long run would be if I had to get to the on/off switch often. So far, it looks like the display sleeps nicely when the computer does, so no apparent problem there.
Overall, this seems to be the display I've been looking for. I do wish Apple had produced a 4K TB display, but even if they had, it probably wouldn't have met my needs (screen real estate) as well as this one does.
Update, 10 December: I have downgraded my review from 5 to 2 stars now, not because of the monitor itself but because of Quality Control issues. When the monitor arrived and I set it up, I was delighted with all that screen real estate, and the initial experience was very positive. My MacBook Pro-Retina recognized the monitor and its ideal resolution (3440x1440, 60 Hz) immediately, and only a tiny bit of calibration seemed necessary. On the second day of use, though, I began to notice display artifacts on the right half of the screen: a pattern of closely spaced vertical lines that appeared in solid color areas such as window titles, solid areas in the background, etc. Just how much and where varies with which windows are in focus, and maybe other things. The effect is subtle, but once you notice it, obvious and wrong. I contacted Amazon and they arranged to ship a replacement right away. Great, I thought: wonderful customer service (and I have no reason to retract that). But when the replacement arrived, it was DOA: wouldn't do anything when powered on. So now I had two of them to return, and since the second one had come in a box that was too big and that therefore got destroyed in shipment, I only had one carton in which to return them. I sent the DOA one back, and I'm still hoping to find appropriate material to send back the other defective one. But now Amazon is out of stock, so they can't send me another one (they have arranged a refund), and the only source they list wants a significant premium over list price and doesn't offer Prime shipping. Phooey. I really like this monitor, in theory, but it does not look as if LG is doing a great job producing it.
