From a gaming perspective...Love it!

Style: Monitor with ThunderboltVerified Purchase

I wanna make this perfectly clear, I purchased this with Gaming only in mind. Not Productivity or Surfing like most people might be using it for, or a second TV... So with that said let me get this started.

I play a large variety of games, for the most part most games are support by the 3440x1440 resolution. Here's a quick list of what I have played on this monitor as of to date.

World of Warcraft - Supported
Castle Story - Supported
Archeage - Supported
Diablo 3 - 2560 only
Heroes of the Storm - 2560 only
7 Days to Die - Supported
Stomping Land - 1920 but this is a developer issue
Warframe - Supported

I own many others but time constraints :-(

If anyone has any questions please respond to this and I will Answer as many as possible, just give me a thumbs up if I do tho please!

Ordering Process : This step took me over a month of waiting, I wanted the 999.99 price tag and only Amazon I have seen has been offering it. Although I was frustrated while waiting "especially since they don't take your money up front" I did stick it out and suggest anyone on wait also do so.

Packaging : The UPS box it arrived in was about an inch bigger then the items box, Had no extra insulation of any type and well thats about it for the UPS box. The box itself is appealing but thin in regards of cardboard thickness. This didnt seem to much of a problem and mine arrived without any marks to note. When you open the box there's a notice on the top of it saying to not pick up from middle with your hands. Most people tend to grab the top bezel and pull up, on this one the Bezel is very small and could damage the screen if you pick it up this way. Highly suggest you open the top and slide it out onto the floor or bed. Lastly the contents in the box are all seperated and in their own little bags.

Assembly : This is a no brainer, for none mac users like myself your going to use the Display port cord they do provide. I don't know why anyone would use the HDMI thats provided since you wont reach the 60fps mark most people want. I layed my monitor on the edge of the bed and assembled the stand with its 2 bolts rather quickly, I'd suggest the top notch first instead of the bottom one since even on the top it still sits fairly low. Lastly you got your standard power brick not much to say on that aspect, would have liked a LED light indicator but alas that would prolly add a buck or 2 :-/

Gaming : What can I say, it took me about 2 days to adjust but once I got use to aspect ratio and the extra FOV I was amazed. I have yet to try this with BF4 or BL2 but I'm sure I will be impressed there as well. Color's are crisp and bright! I currently have it set on Gaming mode under its Function menu and so far working without any issues. One thing I have noticed is more screen tearing. This is minor to me and doesn't happen often but with such a wide resolution it is more noticable. If you play Simulation games or MMO's your really gonna enjoy the wider format.

Software : The software included is kind of a joke. Either I'm doing something wrong or it's simply hates me... The true color finder included has yet to work, keep getting the same error and cant find any help online. The split screen software is nice for browsing but does little to nothing for gaming. I thought with the split screen I could run multiple games in different screen but the games override the software making it impossible.

Hardware : 5ms IPS panel at 3440 w/ Speakers. Not much to say Speakers sound great and the display it bright and easy to look at for long amount of hours. The finish is not glossy in any sense and doesnt show background light at all. Probably one of the best monitor finishes I have seen in a long time. The bezel is half inch thick for anyone looking to put two of these side by side.

Conclusion : If your wanting dual monitors without a Bezel this is your monitor. I hate bezels more then anything and I wanted more screen real estate and this was perfect for me. I cannot stress how good this monitor looks and will be enjoying it for years to come.

Pros : Big Bright Slim
Cons : The Stand is good but has no height adjustment, luckily has option for vesa mount.

Style: Monitor with Thunderbolt

Ok, I have used many, many different kinds of displays. Matt screen, glossy, 30", 27", 24", surround with three 27", ect. This is THE best display I've ever used. I am aware of 4K and its ability and I believe this is way better than any 4K at the moment in my opinion. Most 4K runs at 30 Hz and its still in the birthing stage. Its true ability and capabilities will take a couple of years to perfect.

First off it's wide, very wide. It's the same aspect ratio of ultra-widescreen movies. It's the same hight as a 27" 2560 X 1440 display with an additional 3-4 inches to each side--hence the 3440 resolution. It's light..about 1/2 the weight of my Apple cinema display being that all metal and glass and this being mostly plastic. It comes pre-calibrated but I had to tinker with the menu to get it to my preferrences.

It's matt screened but hardly, and I mean HARDLY. I can see detailed reflections in it. The anti-glare coating is very, VERY light. So light that I wouldnt even class it as matt. It's semi-glossy in my opinion with just enough matt to throw off harsh glares. It runs a smooth 60Hz via DisplayPort and Thunderbolt and 50Hz via HDMI. I guess for hard-core gamers a 120Hz would be desirable but I could never tell any difference. It's plenty fast for me as well with a 5MS responce time.

The real winner here for me is the back I/O ports. The thing has a built-in KVM switch and/or Thunderbolt dock. What I have is a brute of a PC and a late 2013 retina MacBook Pro. Both are plugged into the I/O on the back and both run native resolution and sound without any need for any KVM switch! Its built right into the menu on the display. Choose your input and the rear I/O does the magic. I am ONLY using the Thunderbolt port and cable running to my MacBook Pro. Nothing else. No USB, audio, nothing. I am using the display's USB "uplink" to plug into my PC, and then I plug in my only keyboard and only mouse in the back USB "In" ports on the back of the display. All I need to do is use the display's joystick menu controller and switch inputs and its works like a charm! USB data, audio, and display video are all carried over the single Thunderbolt cable to my Mac and the PC is controlled via the USB cables. Wow.

Totally awesome and immersive to the core. I have seperate speakers for my PC and the audio from my Mac is passed into the displays speakers which are really not bad.

All in all, this display is what I've waited for years to obtain and it's here.

I have been trying to edit my review for a couple weeks now but Amazon wouldn't let me until it became available again.

1) I apologize for my terrible puncuation and spelling originally as I was in a real hurry and excited. It's fixed.(hopefully)

2) I wasn't aware that audio was carried over both Thunderbolt and DisplayPort. I just plugged in my external speakers into the audio out (headphone jack) on the back I/O port on the display and chose the LG UM3495 as my audio out choice on both the PC and Mac and that gets carried over too. The KVM funcionality works with this and switches it as well. Awesome!

3) I have recently purchased a current Mac Mini and can say that the Mini, through Thunderbolt, DOES push this resolution 100% BUT at 50Hz. I can rarely see some hesitation when opening windows through the Mini because of the lack of descrete graphics but that's it. The Mini does just fine. It even pushes some older games at full res without any tearing or screen jitters. If you have a 2012 or later Mini (Intel graphics 4000), this display will work at full res but at 50Hz.

Style: Monitor with Thunderbolt

The reason why this is "backordered" is because there are major issues with this monitor. It was supposed to be widely available in May, (I bought and paid for mine 3 months ago) but now LG says late August, early September, and that is a maybe. I have heard from many reliable sources that this monitor did not get built correctly and they are trying to correct the issues, but not having success. LG is being unreasonably tight lipped about this and that makes these rumors and suspicions ring true. Look elsewhere.

EDIT:

So I finally got my monitor, 5 months after I had ordered and paid for it.

It is "okay".

I expected better, I am not going to lie. But I am bumping my rating up to a 3, because it arrived.

Pretty awkward menu system. No calibration out of the box. Annoying menu's that won't go away.

But, its a monitor. And it's wide. And it will serve its purpose for the time being.
