I needed another MAC superdrive for a macbook air, I found this one for fortynine bucks local retail. This is far better than an Apple SUPERDRIVE!

How is this LG better than a superdrive? :

The superdrive from Apple has an INSANELY SHORT 6" cord, making it unbearable to use in a lot of instances, especially with a macbook air or my macbook Retina. This unit has a 14" cord

The internals on this unit come from the SAME chinese mfg. as the superdrive!

This LG unit is thinner than the superdrive, though not as robust in its casing.

This LG burns everything, and plays everything, same as the Superdrive, AND is $30 cheaper!

I thought from the price, that this unit would be cheap-junk, but its anything but. Its perfect, well made, cheaper than a superdrive, and has MANY advantages over the superdrive! Including being
a lot thinner than the superdrive!

Despite the additional power-USB plug, I have not had to use it once on ANY mac laptop for power or burning!
If my weakly powered Macbook Air will play and BURN DVDs to this unit one after another, then it will work on ANY macbook!

I needed a Portable DVD drive for a tablet and laptop that does not have one installed. You need to install the software that is provided. After installing the software it works without any problems. I have installed other software with out problems on a windows 8.1 operating systems.

This DVD player/writer is primarily designed to be portable and is best suited for notebooks and lap tops; however, there is no problem hooking it up to a desk top machine, and it comes with software for both PC's and Mac's, working with a whole array of Windows operating systems from Windows 8.1 on down.

This unit does not come with its own power cord, and a powered USB connection is required; it will not operate if plugged into a USB bank that is not powered. Plug it directly into a USB port on your computer or a powered USB bank, and you'll be good to go.

I've been using it to upload my cd/dvd collection onto my laptop and I haven't had any problems at all. It was pretty simple to install too, just plug it in and it installs the drivers then you're good to go.
