5.0 out of 5 stars LG's underrated flagship of 2015
By Jacob on October 28, 2016
The LG V10 was LG's flagship device of last year which in my opinion was extremely underrated at the time of release. Sporting a Snapdragon 808 processor, four gigabytes or ram, a large 5.7" QHD display with a smaller secondary display, and of course two front-facing cameras, and a 16 mega-pixel back camera with an F1.8 aperture and you're left with a very impressive device to say the least. LG opted for the Snapdragon 808 processor due to Qualcomms latest SOC having horrible over-heating problems at the time in most devices that it was used in. While not the latest and greatest processor available at the time, the Snapdragon 808 is no slouch even to this day. That paired with the four gigabytes of ram leave you with zero lag in almost any task I have put this thing through. Even heavy gaming with some modern Android games still look and play flawlessly with little to no problems in frame rate and graphical prowess. The four gigabytes of ram lets you multi-task with ease to your hearts content, but it does also help with the second screen I mentioned earlier in the review. The second screen is a small two inch long display on top of your main display which gives you access to things like your notifications, and some quick toggles for things like Wi-Fi and the flashlight even when your device's main screen is off! It is very hard to convey how useful this second screen is but trust me, once you get used to it you'll find it difficult to go without it. LG says that if you leave the secondary display on all day, you'll lose just a few percentage of your battery and I personally think it is well worth it due to the additional functionality that it provides.

The main display of the phone is 5.7" with a QHD resolution and LG's Quantum Display technology. While the term does sound like a marketing gimmick, the display is indeed very nice to use. Outdoor visibility is excellent on both of the displays, and colors look life like but vibrant at the same time. The display is not AMOLED which is what a lot of people prefer, but do not let that sway your purchasing decision if you're in the market for a phone because this display is equally good from what I've seen so far. Viewing angles, contrast, brightness, and even the black levels are all excellent and you will not have any problems using this device for things like multi-media or games.

The cameras on the front of the device (and yes I did say cameras) are both five mega-pixels, one has a very wide viewing angle which you can switch between for things like selfies. This works great and does in fact give a very wide shot. The back camera is to me one of the bigger selling points of this phone for one simple reason which is the manual controls. Sure you can take some fast shots and you'll get impressive results, but you can also turn on manual mode which lets you tweak every setting of the camera to adjust for white balance, the ISO, shutter speed, and even the manual focus levels. These controls are very impressive and really do make a huge difference in the shots you'll be able to take particularly for late night shots. I was even able to take a few shots of the stars at night when it was pitch dark outside without much experience tweaking all of the controls. The manual controls are not just limited to photos either, you can also use them for filming video as well! You'll even have full access to the microphone levels and a wind-noise filter.

There are plenty of other features of this phone such as the DAC which makes for an incredible music listening experience, the removable battery, the SD card slot, and a lot of other note worthy features but for the sake of time I am going to not be adding all of that to this review. If you want to know anything else about this device or using it in 2016 then feel free to ask and I'd be happy to help to the best of my abilities. Even with the LG V20 coming out, if you need a new device then this is very hard to beat especially with the price these are currently selling for. The performance, and features still hold up today and I would highly suggest giving it a shot if you're on the fence about this device.
