LG HOM-BOT Square Robot Vacuum Cleaner
The new LG HOM-BOT Square is the new dimension of automated home vacuuming. First, there's the ingenious square design just what you need to really clean corners and wall edges. Next, there's HOM-BOT's amazing performance as advanced as the Dual Eye Mapping System, as sparkling as its 7 Smart Clean Modes. HOM-BOT is the future of carefree convenience. Even better, it's ready to impress you today.
It's good to be square!
LG's HOM-BOT Square with its longer side brushes reaches corners, wall edges and small areas more effectively than traditional round-shaped robot vacuum cleaners. Look forward to the thorough, fresh-everywhere cleaning that will delight the fussiest homeowner.
Revolutionary Dual-Eye Movement
You use two eyes when you're cleaning, and so does HOM-BOT. With cameras mounted on the top and bottom, HOM-BOT maps the area around your home as it cleans, calculating optimal cleaning paths 50 times each second to make sure it doesn't miss a spot. The top camera takes as many as 30 images every second while the optical sensor on the bottom reads the surface up to 2,000 times per second for mapping and location purposes. The only thing you'll see is better, more efficient cleaning.
A Custom Cleaning Mode for Every Requirement
LG knows that every room and cleaning chore is different. That's why HOM-BOT Square offers 7 Smart Cleaning Modes…everything from Zig-Zag for large areas with few obstacles to Smart Turbo, which automatically adjusts to floor and carpet surfaces, and cleans with turbo-charged performance.
While Hom-Bot's cleaning technology makes people take notice, it still manages to clean quietly, thanks to smart design features like insulation that's meant to absorb vibrations and reduce noise. It creates low noise so you can carry on your daily activities without interference – just an incredible 50dB.
Knows Where to Return and When to Resume
When it comes to efficient cleaning, HOM-BOT Square never gets sidetracked. If cleaning is interrupted and the vacuum is moved to a new area, a clever function called Auto-Resume comes into action. Auto-Resume enables the vacuum to return to exactly where it had left off, so that cleaning is resumed precisely from its original location.
Learning Function allows HOM-BOT to recognize the areas it has cleaned on previous occasions, so the vacuum precisely remembers the optimal cleaning path and positioning of obstacles. HOM-BOT cleans as if it has photographic memory, ensuring faster and more efficient cleaning every time.
The LG HOM-BOT handles a wide variety of cleaning tasks, because modern homes require cleaning versatility. A powerful main brush loosens and sweeps dirt and dust throughout the home, while side brushes clean corners and edges. And at just 3 inches tall, it's slim enough to fit under most furniture with ease.
The vacuum that talks
Smarter both inside and out, HOM-BOT Square is quite the conversationalist. Voice Alert feature "tells" you when cleaning is complete, the battery is being recharged, Dust Bin needs emptying, and many more. LG HOM-BOT Square has 120 words in its memory.
- Single Eye Mapping system (Magellan Mapping)
- Scheduled Cleaning
- Battery Charge Docking Station
- Remote Control
- HEPA Filter: Filters out common household allergens
- Easy-out Dust Bin
- Sweeps and Vacuums: Great with carpets, edges, corners and hard surfaces, too

Top customer reviews
After months of researching and talking with friends, I could not bring myself to buy the Roomba or similar product. Too expensive for very limited results. After somehow finding a review between the new LG and Samsung vacuums, it seemed that the better models were located in Europe and Asia. I came across this model on Amazon and placed the order, knowing there was no set delivery date. It was the only vacuum, other than the Samsung, that I researched that seemed to make "sense" for the insane price tag. It's a luxury item, no doubt. And we have never owned such a device.
After about 3 months, the vacuum arrived a day ago. We have all hardwood floors and tile. It's a relatively complex layout and we have plenty of furniture for this thing to negotiate. Out of the box, came a detailed instruction manual (albeit with some funny English translations), home station, and all spare parts (brushes, filter, cleaning brush). I didn't follow the instructions on purpose and set the home station up in a corner, just to see how this thing would work. I made sure there was amble light in the house and turned it on. I didn't bother to move shoes or a random computer bag or the random Captain America toy (or any of our son's toys). I just spent 800 bucks, it better work magic-box!
Off it went. It was relatively quiet. I was able to have a normal-level conversation with it running. It hardly bumped into any furniture at all, just the occasional chair-leg corner or wall corner. Not even a bump, more of a graze. It negotiated around all of the toys, furniture, and any other obstacles we had. That was one reason why we bought it. We didn't want to change our lifestyle to baby sit a piece of machinery. The side brushes are impressive. They reach into the corners and deeper under furniture, sweeping dust and dirt into the decent sized collection bin. It even got too close to our gas fireplace and sucked up about Jellybean sized gravel, no problem. About 10 pieces. I wouldn't recommend this practice. No damage was caused, but I didn't buy it for cleaning gravel.
It cleane our 1600 sqft home on one battery charge and cleaned the entire house. Handles carpet with no problem and can handle thresholds surprisingly well. I would say our ledge into our bathroom is about 1/4" straight up. It just plowed its way in there and started cleaning. We were happily surprised to say the least. After we followed it around in amazement, we hit the home button on the remote (yes, it comes with a remote). We did it while it was in the back of house and had the longest, toughest route back to the home station. It found it no problem. Scary good.
The vacuum has multiple cleaning modes, but we are leaving it in zig-zag mode, because it eventually "learns" your house and will clean it more efficiently. Has two different options for scheduling, 1-day or everyday. The coolest feature it has, but I have yet to try is the "my space" feature. No fences required. Put the bot in a room you want to clean or area and then lead it with the remote around the edge of the room or area you want it to clean and it creates it's own virtual barrier. Again, haven't tried it yet. I will update when we do. But if it works in reality as good as it sounds in theory, this thing will be BA.
After 24- hours we are pretty happy. We will update in a week or two after having more time with it. So far, it has met all of our expectations and more for a robot vacuum. Worth the wait and price tag.
After a few months of having this vacuum, we are extremely pleased. Again, we view this as NOT a replacement for mopping or a weekly deep-vacuuming. This is simply to help cut down on the amount of time and frequency that we have to do both. The LG has done that, with some surprising outcomes.
1. It cuts down on the "dust-bunnies". The LG can get under our taller furniture and picks up where dust likes to hide, which has significantly cut down the need to vaccuum up those dust balls that accumulate. In that regard, its been great.
2. It has definitely cut down on our weekly vacuuming. We use to run it everyday, but that was unnecessary for us. We typically run it 2-3 times during the week and then do a regular vacuum on the weekends. That use to take some time to get into every space of the house, but with this LG augmenting, the time it takes to vacuum our house is cut by at least 2/3s. It might quite be that much of an improvement, but if it use to take 45 minutes to vacuum everywhere, it now takes 20 minutes. It just seems like we are spending way less time vacuuming. Perceptions can be reality.
- Does not slam into walls or furniture aimlessly.
- Quiet and relatively powerful
- Easy to empty dust bin; decent size dust bin
- Does a good job of cleaning all areas of our home
- Comes with spare parts (also see CONS)
- Do not have to babysit the machine while running
- Worth the price, to us anyways (also see CONS)
- May not be worth the price (depending on what factors are most important to you)
- We are already on the spare parts (brushes). It sucked up a iPhone charging cord (minor damage), but then sucked up a Toddler sock. That bent all of the brushes, requiring us to use the spares so soon. It kept running in "Turbo" mode on hard surfaces, which we finally checked underneath it and saw a wedged sock. So, User Error.
- If you are lazy (like us), then there will be times you miss a small toy, sock, charging cord, etc. and it will get sucked up into the vacuum. Be cogniscent of what is laying around before running it. It can handle it, but at $800 dollars, its pricey to be negligent with it.
- Maintenance. Dumping the dust bin is easy. Monthly, we scrub the vacuum. Cleaning the sensors, wiping it down, cleaning any lodged, small debris, and vacuuming the air filter with an Upright. We are OCD, so that may have something to do with it, but the fact remains that some upkeep needs to be done to it. It certainly is not as "tough" as regular vacuums. I am sure you could not do anything, but empty the dust bin, but to us, the cost does not give us the freedom to do bare minimum.
We are pleased. Very pleased and would make the purchase again without hesitation.
I was hesitant to spend the money on the HomBot given the cost, but watching a video online and seeing how much quieter it is compared to the Neato gave me the nudge to give it a try.
It is quiet!! - Compared to the Neato which sounds like a jet taking off, this is almost whisper quiet. Even in "Turbo" mode, it is at least 1/4 of the noise of the Neato. Granted I don't have a meter to test the sound so that is just my feel. I can watch TV and this can be doing its business and I hardly notice it. My dogs also don't freak out when this comes on, in fact they are curious about it and follow it around. The Neato on carpet is loud. The Neato on tile is LOUD.
The ergonomics are fantastic. The placement of the side brushes allow it to clean around my baseboards. An area that my Neato (and Roomba in the past) always missed. Also, the dust bin is super easy to remove and smartly laid out. They put a sponge filter just before the HEPA. This was a huge gripe for me with the Neato. Cleaning the HEPA is always a pain as the dirt gets jammed up in the Vs of the filter. This sponge ensures that all the large dirt stays in the bin on the HomBot. Take the sponge out and rinse it, quickly brush the HEPA, and you are done.
Its routing logic is more robust (in the ways important to me). My Neato would keep trying to go over areas it couldn't clean. The most noticeable is a set of chairs I have at my kitchen counter. They have horizontal support bars at ground level (directly on the ground). The scanner on the Neato cant see that low so it keeps trying to drive over it. It will try 5-10 times in the same spot making grinding noises and rolling forward and back trying to make it over these supports. Lots of the time it just gets stuck. The HomBot just hits them, then tries to gently nudge them again and moves on. So much less annoying.
It cleans very well. I wouldn't go as far as saying it cleans as well as the Neato, But it is so close that with the decrease in noise, it more than makes up for that. For me, I can run this more often since it is less intrusive. When I say the Neato cleans better, it is by a very small margin if I go off dust in the bin. They both have a full dust bin after cleaning... I just think the Neato may have a very small amount more. But now i can run this nightly and get on with my evening, not having to move room to room to hold a phone conversation or watch TV during charge cycles.
I see a USB port on the LG, but no real documentation on what it is for and if there will be software updates. Neato is really good about providing regular updates and they are super easy to install. So future upgradability may be more limited on the LG.
My only gripe is with battery life/charging. To clean my first floor takes 2-3 charge cycles. It was the same with the Neato, but it seems to have charged much faster between cleanings.
So, that is my first Amazon review... I hope it was helpful. Bottom line, if you want an automated vacuum that does a good job and you don't notice it working... this is really the only one out there. It has its flaws like getting stuck from time-to-time... but overall it is exactly what I have been looking for in a robot vac.
**I should mention I have owned a few Roombas as well... but I don't like their cleaning logic (or lack of). The random bouncing drives me nuts so I didn't add it to my review. I am sure it did a fair job, but I feel the more methodical cleaners just do a better and more consistent job. But that is just my opinion. I am sure lots of people love their Roombas.
** Update 12/6/2013 ** - So I admit that I actually sent my HomBot back because I was upset with it getting stuck all the time. But then a few months later I really missed it and how quiet it was. So I ordered another one and am glad I did. It is so quiet that I dont mind helping it out from time-to-time as needed. And as you can see from the video I have modified it (and my house) a bit to avoid most issues. Sorry that the video has some noise clean-up so the vast difference cant be heard as much as it really is. But I think the LG is so much quieter that I will live witht its imperfections. I love my Neato... but the LG is just so quiet that it takes the win.
As a side note I am glad that LG removed the firmware update they had posted. I believe that it actually made mine run worse than the version it ships with (it gets stuck much less). Maybe that is why they pulled it...
Well, the situation changed very fast. Two of 5 were broken in several weeks after delivery and went back to Amazon. One for refund, other for exchange. Exchange unit went back in two weeks broken for refund. So 3 defective units after first month of use. Nice? Well, that's not the end at all. So after one month we have 4 units of 6 total purchased remaining. The 30 days to return to Amazon are over.
About 6 weeks after delivery two more are having problems (one if moving just in rounds and other stopping every minute). And now... We have to deal with LG service department which is really-really bad. How they work? Here is short description of typical call to them (i already had like 20 of them trying to get this crap fixed). After spending 20-40 minutes on the phone you get somebody usually with very poor english. Then you have to spend another 10 min explaining them situation and another 10-15 waiting for them to find possible solutions in they help-lists (of course they never find it as number of options is very small). Then they take your address and promise to send box and label for shipment. I had to call back 3 times in 3 weeks to get first box. Got it. Send bot to them. Waited about 2 weeks. Got it back in damaged box. It worked a week. Then the same situation as before - nothing was fixed, no parts were changed, they just made some easy-fix and returned it.
And you know what? Two of other 4 had same situations. 1 is going to service 3rd time and second 4th time!!!
Sorry for so many words. My opinion is very simple. This is awful lemon product. LG service is awful and not helpful.
For sure no more LG bots and i will try to avoid this brand in other products also.
