It is a large and heavy unit, and a bit noisy if you plan to sleep in the room with it. But we did get used to the noise, and it was certainly a fair trade off for the comfort it provided. I would not hesitate for a second to purchase this unit again, and when summer rolls around I am so thankful that we have it. Very well built and efficient cooler.
1. Super cold! My room is between 200-300 sq ft I leave my door open to the hall/ living room and my bedroom room is like an ice box within minutes, temp set at 64. Sometimes I rig a regular oscillating fan in front of my bedroom door and it will drag the cool air to the living room.
2.There is an "energy saving" option. The temperature will regulate itself, great to be able to leave it on when I am at work and come back to a cooled down room.
3.I have not had to worry about emptying out the water tray at all and I ran the unit continuously last summer.
4.The self cleaner mode is awesome.
1.Electric cord is too short. I do not have many outlet options in my apartment and since the cord is so short it's pretty much stationed to one outlet that barely reached a window for the exhaust.
FYI: I have the old school crank windows that open left to right that force me to leave the window open all the time for the exhaust to exit. I had a piece of thick plexi glass cut to the size of my window with a 6x6 inch square cut out of one corner so the exhaust can escape. I replaced my screen with the plexi glass to comp for the window remaining open. I have security bars on my windows to I wasn't worried about safety. Just in case anyone else has this issue.
Edit: OK, been about four months now. Still 5-STAR, BUT... I live in a high humidity zone. The hamster-bladder sized condensation tank can fill up in about an hour, activating the auto shutoff. Major PITA in the middle of the night. The fix is to run a hose from the top drain port into a bucket, or vent it outside. End of issue. My ONLY complaint about the unit is that the vent hose is too short. It is only about four feet. Not very "portable" IMHO if you can only move it a few feet from the window in which you vent it.
FYI: 90% of all after market vent hose extensions suck. Be careful if you go this route. Many are paper thin, which allows too much heat transfer back into the room, and then easily tear because they are cheap. If only LG offered a longer hose option... HINT.
