Ok we had to wait another 5 days in a heat wave for someone else to show up and the technician doesn't even look at the unit. He says that there is nothing wrong with it and the issue is my outlet. He tells us to get an electrician or use an extension cord to a different outlet. We did both and sure enough we had the same problem.
Now we had to call LG again and they sent a different technician who looked at the unit and played around with it and somehow got it to work, Great! 3 weeks later it is dead aain. We call up LG and they send it to the same technician. The dispatch rejects the request as he came to me twice and does not want to come again. (I guess LG isn't paying him properly)
Stupid LG reissues the service call to the same tech who just rejected it. Each one of these takes a week. I initially called them at the end of June. Today is August 7th and no one showed up yet.
So I spent the entire summer with my 3 young kids who they dont care about with no Air conditioning in our living room,
I filed a claim with Amazon and they said after 30 days there is nothing they can do. Stupid me I paid for this with Amazon gift cards and I cant dispute with the credit card company.
So to save all of you headaches. Stay away from LG & Amazon for Air conditioners. If for some reason you decide to buy from Amazon use a good credit card so you can dispute the charge if you have any issues.
I hope the silver lining from my horror story is that it won't happen to anyone else.
Stuck with it, I hoped for the best and that the reviews were wrong. Sadly, they aren't. The 9-year-old 2500 BTU air conditioner this replaces cools my bedroom better and more quietly. This thing is super noisy and sounds like a jet plane taking off. I sleep with fans and white noise year round, have lived with a train behind my house and slept through it like a baby, but this.... this thing I cannot sleep with it running, which defeats the purpose of having an AC for a hot summer night.
It doesn't cool well at all either. I cannot believe this is really a 8K BTU unit. I used to be a big LG fan, and have started to stop buying LG products because they just suffer from poor quality. Even LG phones (my former fav) have turned to garbage.
Don't do it. Buy an off brand as you will probably save money and get better performance. Or hit me up if you live in PGH and want to buy this off of me for half price because I'm going to sell it, cut my losses, and get something else.
Notes on assembly: the screws for the side panels screw in from behind the panels, not the front. If so, swap them left and right.
Fan speed and timer mode settings don't display the current setting, they only show briefly when you change the setting, so if you just want to confirm it then you have to change it, and cycle around until it gets back to the original setting.
It can be set on a timer with a smart outlet, as it will come back up in the same mode setting after outlet power is restored. You could have the timer switch it on an hour before you get home, but you have to know your schedule then. With an external timer or smart plug, it's more flexible.
Measured 41.5 deg outlet temperature with about a 75 deg inlet, so it works pretty well. Decibel readings showed it to be decently quiet, and no unusual noises.
Installed using Insulfoam EPS insulation board from Home Depot, works very well as a waterproof base support to protect the window sill.
Received with a dent in the bottom rear frame, enough to contact the condenser fins, but it's fairly minor compared to the other reports of wholesale damage.
Works much better than the Whynter portable AC unit with 12,000 BTU rating, which doesn't cool as well as this one, and doesn't work to remove humidity. With this LG, humidity was brought down rapidly as it should be. Bonus that it's a third of the price to boot.
just had several days of 90+ temps, and this AC kept us nice and cool
Just wanted to update this review now that we have had it a few years
this LG is still working and it works a well as it did the first day we used it

- It came with a thermostat to set the desired temperature and I didn't see that listed anywhere.
- I bought it thinking 800 watts would be very efficient when it only consumes 450 watts on max settings. Edit: week later went up to 561w. I have a watt meter to confirm.
- Relatively quiet compared to other ACs.
