Top Customer Reviews
I could have gotten over all of that, as I'm not an audiophile; the deal breaker for me was bluetooth connectivity. If you have read all the reviews complaining about losing connection, I'm sad to report this is absolutely true. I was losing connection on these things while holding my phone in my hand. Losing connection about 2-3 times every few minutes. This issue just completely makes these things unusable to be completely honest. I'm not sure what the problem is, as these headsets use the same Bluetooth technology as the Infinim models (which work wonderfully, btw.), but the Platinum model DEFINITELY has a bluetooth issue. These were used on an iPhone 6S, so it may work better on Android phones...not sure about that.
In the end, I took these back and decided to get the 910 model (2nd gen Infinim's), which basically are almost identical to the Platinum model with the exception of working properly and being about $60 cheaper.
The biggest focus for me is simultaneous multi-device connectivity (multipoint). I'll accept the fact I may be a small demographic in the broad spectrum cell phone owners, however, it doesn't make my review any less relevant for $150 - $200 BT headset. Although the LG Tone models, technically, can "connect" to multiple phones/devices, yet NOT automatically. Which means, they lack the true multipoint technology that AUTOMATICALLY reconnects to secondary paired phones. After you pair both devices, when you turn off the headset and back on, you have a small window of time to manually go through the bluetooth settings on the 2nd device to connect the already paired device to the LG headset. This is not only substandard for a $200+ headset, but not acceptable when $20 or less BT headsets have this capability. Another pet peeve of mine with this headset is on Samsung Android devices there is no battery meter. Seriously!!! The only battery indicator is the virtual voice assistant that says low, medium, or high. SMH ($200). And no, the certified LG Tone & Talk app in Google Play does NOT give you a battery meter. The app for me has little utility, but that is another critical review looming in my frustration.
Last, but certainly least ;-) is the range. 33ft is laughable. This goes for the entire Tone line. If I step a little over 15ft I get "trying to connect" prompts and it is really annoying as it repeats the prompt until you are within close range. So with the continuous ping for the headset, if you have a 2nd phone connected, it will continuously try to reconnect with voice prompts and vibration. The only way to terminate the session is to turn off the headset and back on. Which really boils my blood, because you have to take the manual steps to connect the 2nd phone, to only have the headset turn into a puppy with separation anxiety.
This unit is obviously for individuals with either one phone, audiophiles, have deep ear canals appreciate the novelty of having it around their necks like a necklace. Granted I bought into the aspect of not having to wear something in my ear all day, but the other shortcomings makes that luxury unnoticeable and underappreciated when I am constantly managing BT settings to make/receive calls through the headset (especially if not the primary device) or having to be closely tethered to my phone so that the headset remains connected.
LG's design is genius! They just need to capitalize on the market share and include true multipoint and a battery mete for Android.
Weird shaped earbuds - I always buy the comply comfort tips which transforms the listening experience.
These tips are elongated, not as comfortable.
They are EXTREMELY delicate. The little piece in the center of the shaft came apart for no reason. There's a little plastic tab that is part of a connective piece which connects the two parts. That little tab broke.
