1. Touch screen and keyboard are excellent. Large number to dial, QWERTY keyboard on the horizontal position is easy to type. Better than the iPhone or iTouch (I have access to both).
2. Good signal and phone functions.
3. Awsome 3MP camera! I am in to photography so this is important. It is nice to have a decent camera with you when you need to take a picture. I always have a point& shoot with me, but in case I don't, there is still the phone. Check out a picture I uploaded.
4. I discovered tonight (you guys who have the phone for awhile probably know this) that it plays mp4 videos! I load a couple of mp4 I generate for my iPod (320x400) and they played well. Not sure how fast it consumes the battery though. I sure will find out. I added a 8GB Kingston microSD, cost me all of 20 bucks, so I can store a lot of videos. I think it supports 16GB, but not sure. May be I add a 16GB in the future for more storage.
5. Connected the phone to my Mac via Bluetooth is a non-event. I transfered the videos to the phone with Bluetooth.
The only negative about the phone is it doesnot support universal headset or regular USB cable. But the stereo headset is cheap, about 10 bucks. I don't need the cable since I have bluetooth on my Mac and PC.
Post more when I find more cool stuffs.
June 22, 09: I have now used the phone for over a month. While I am more impressed with its features such as games, music player and even video player, I AM SO DISAPPOINTED with its performance in voice call. The thing is, I have raise my voice another level to talk! Otherwise, the person on the other end kept telling me she/he can't hardly hear what I said. I called AT&T customer service and after testing the phone with me, they sent me a replacement. The new phone is worse than the old one. I don't care how cool the phone is, if I have to practically yell into the phone to talk, it is not good. I have the phone for over 30 days now, so there is no chance to get something else.
If you get this phone, make sure to talk a lot during the first 29 days so you have the option to change your mind.
I guess that was why it cost 1 cent for the phone. I will now think the rating is about 3 stars and I think it is generous.
Overall, I am happy with this phone. It is lightweight, the screen is bright and colorful, and the resolution is quite good. The touchscreen is pretty responsive, although there are moments that I have to touch an icon twice. The on-screen keyboard is responsive, and allows me to type pretty quickly with very few errors. I appreciate the vibration feedback when the screen is touched, it provides confirmation that I actually "pressed" a key. The sound quality is great, and the speakerphone works great, too. The camera is quite nice, and takes good quality photos and videos with sound. It does not have a flash, but most of the time this has not been a problem. For basic phone functions, this phone is great (making/receiving calls, texting).
However, as others have noted, the battery life is quite poor. I havn't tried turning off the 3G to save the battery, but I live in a metropolitan area in which 3G is always available so battery power isn't being wasted searching for 3G. After making a few phone calls, the battery drains 2 or 3 bars (out of 5). After using the internet or checking email, the battery drains even faster. This has hindered me from using the internet as frequently as I would like. I am constantly worried about my battery dying while I'm out of the house and not near a charger. Also, the internet interface itself is not so nice. I would appreciate a real browser, but perhaps that is too much to ask. Another issue I have is that the vibration feature when a call/text comes in is not very strong, even on the highest setting. So, even if the phone is on the table next to me, I frequently do not notice it ringing when it's on vibrate. When it's in my pocket, I never feel it vibrate.
Overall, a good phone. If I could afford the iPhone, that would have been my first choice. But this iPhone wannabe will have to do until I'm done with grad school.
Its loaded with features and is so very functional.Apart from the paid features, there are other practical aspects to the phone which come handy on a daily basis.
I have not seen these features on other phones yet.
1)It has converter- which can convert values for currency, weight, length, volume.
2) It has a timer and a stop watch.
3) I use the world clock feature all the time for my international calls.
4)The alarm can be set to different days of the week.
I can go on and on. This phone has features which are not common on cell phones.
Off course, the common features are excellent too:
1)call quality is great.
2)camera and video are good with many cool ways to enhance the photos taken.
3)Touch screen is very responsive.
4)The Qwerty keyboard is the best and such a treat to use.
5)Battery life is good - much better than the Motorola.
I am so glad, I could exchange my Motorola Z9 for this cool device.
I would also give 5 stars to Amazon customer service. They are really good and can help you out pretty fast.
The only con, I can think of is the absence of voice dial and choice of colors (this phone only comes in black). Also there is no option to customize the background colors.(And yes it does have Speed dial which many people can't find. You just have to type in the sim location of your contact followed by # sign).
But then these are minor issues compared to the pros. This is my first Samsung phone, and I am so glad I made the switch from Motorolas.
No one can regret buying this phone. It may not have some extras of iphone, but for a basic phone it offers much much more.
