This is the quietest and most reliable, trouble free AC ever. Have three, along with central AC house, for zones that are warmer in my southern Florida house. This saves keeping the house overly cool, saves money and adds comfort. Consumer Report doesn't even rate LG, I have better rating data, my own experience with them. Fan at low speed is ultra quiet, gets louder a higher speeds, like all AC's, but never really LOUD loud. Cannot tell when compressor comes on or goes off, it is so smooth and quiet. If I did not have this personal experience, would not keep buying and using more. Easy to mount. Many commercial and industrial property uses LG for it's South Korean, proven quality. Tried other brands and found them very noisy, short life and more expensive. It seem that some negative reviews, could have been written by competitors. Finally, I am an especially critical evaluator of products. It they disappoint, they go, I can afford to get the best and have had some products that were paid for, used and replaced, at my expense, to find what meets my high and fussy standards. LG AC's meet and surpass them. I rarely write a review, this is something special and wanted to show my appreciation. Buy and enjoy. Always use Amazon.

Reasons for the 2 stars...

1) It's kinda noisy for a brand new A/C. The fan makes too much noise even on low. On high, the noise is unbearable. The max that we use is medium for the fan, otherwise we won't be able to sleep at night.

2) It's weak. They say it's good for a room up to 260 sqft. Our room is about 150 sqft. In 90 degrees weather, it takes 2 to 3 hours to cool down the room. If we are planning to go to bed at 12 midnight, we would need to start the A/C at 10pm, in order to get the temperature in the room to 78 degrees by midnight.

3) It is tough to install. Doesn't provide different options for different types of installations. Be prepared to drill through your window sill to install. If you cannot do that, then you're screwed.

4) Lack of features... you cannot tell the current fan speed, cannot tell the current room temperature.

The only reason I'm not giving it a 1 star is because it is still working after 2 months.

Just so you know, we also bought a GE 6000 btu (actually it's 6400 btu), and we love it!!! We bought the GE a couple weeks before we bought this LG. When we went back a couple weeks later to buy a second unit, they were all sold out, so we got this LG unit instead. The GE is still working great!!! It cools the room fast, very quiet, and it shows the current room temperature and the fan speed. It also offer different options for different type of installations and it's very easy to install. Took us only 10 minutes to complete the installation for the GE unit, but an hour and a half to install the LG.

As for which one will last longer ( the GE or the LG) remains to be seen... They are both still working fine after 2 months.

Ok, so I haven't purchased a ton of AC units, this is the only one so I don't have a lot to compare it too. What I like about this unit is that on a really super hot humid day when you haven't had the AC unit on, you can come home turn it on and feel pretty comfortable in about an hour. I feel like it saves a lot of energy versus having central air, because we live in such a small space. I bought it for only $99 on sale, and has adequately cooled my studio for over 5 years now. Cleaning the filter is tremendously easy, seriously, just pull off the front panel, pop it out, scrub with soap & water, dry, place back in.

My studio is 450 sq ft, so it mainly cools the front area which is about 250 sq ft, this is the space we sleep in, so we sleep comfortably.

As for loudness factor, I don't have anything to compare to, but I like a loud unit to block street noise. I live in NYC street level, so for my situation it couldn't be more perfect! And I love the remote, it makes it so easy to adjust the temp or fan in the middle of the night and not have to get up.

I have a single upstairs room w/350 sq ft to cool. This air conditioner is a little smaller than recommended for that space, but I do have a single central air vent "trickling" in some cool air. This unit has been in use for over a month and has worked well. It was just the size I was looking for and was easy for a one person installation. I didn't think I would care about the remote, but found it is handy. It controls all same settings that are on the control panel. I generally use the energy saver setting to maintain a certain moderate temperature without the fan running continuously. Minor cons: The vent does not swivel or tilt up & down. Just straight ahead. It does have a side-to-side adjustment. Not crazy about the unit "testing" the air every 5 minutes by circulating air then shutting off when in Energy saver mode. Seems like it would be better, and less energy consumption, if it just kicked on when the temperature rose to certain level as others I have had. Otherwise, in regular setting, the fan runs continuously with comp kicking on when cooling needed. Another picky comment, it would have been nice if there was some kind of notch or handhold on the front when installing unit in window. It was a nervous moment with one arm on top of the front of the AC while the other hand was pulling down the window sash. Nothing to grasp that would not block closing the sash. Also, cardboard box ripped while I was carrying to car when using provided handholds. That's not good. All that said, I would recommend. I saved $35 over next best seller by buying from Amazon.
