How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsWell written and easy to get to grips with!

I have a background in Windows with many years spent as a systems administrator for a large company. I am fully aware of the vulnerabilities that the Windows operating system can have and have been interested in the stable environment of the Linux operating system but have never had the time to learn and could never find a book that could convey the Linux principles in a way that is quick and easy to learn.

This book was recommended by a friend and I am so glad they did! The concepts are broken down into a simple and easy to understand manner. I particularly liked chapter 2 which covered the essential functions such as basic commands and how to use Bash features.

Chapter 3 takes you through the file structure in great detail which is essential for all Linux beginners to understand, particularly when moving from Windows. The descriptions on the different types of shells were very pleasing.

The book is rounded off quite nicely towards the end with chapter 7 Networking, which starts of by explaining the OSI Model, covers how to access graphical tools for Ubuntu and Gnome systems and discusses configuration files.

All in all, a very well written, easy to understand book...essential if you are embarking on the wonderful world of Linux!

I found little value in this book as a learning tool. I have many years of programming experience and I have read many computer books over the years. Perhaps that is why I found so little value in this book. Someone who has never worked on a computer before might gain a little knowledge from this book but I can't imagine such a person starting out on a Linux system instead of Windows or Apple systems. My advice is save you money and buy a real beginner's book.

Not everything is in here that I believe a newbie should know. But there is a lot and this will help you to get started. I've used Linux since the 80's and am a die hard fan of the best OS for all users. There is nothing like seeing your screen turn blue because your first program crashed your system bad. And then spending nite and day learning, to in the end seeing everything work again because you are a Super User. You do really feel like that until everything crashes and burns again. Well enjoy this book and I suggest learning some Python or Perl so you have a fighting chance. Linux distributions tend to never work perfect out of the box. I'm hacking my WiFi hardware now on a new Debian install on an older system. So good luck out there and keep your sock dry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Introduction To Linux

I was ignorant as the next person before a friend introduced me to the book. Initially the book felt a lot strange since I have had no previous exposure to the language. I was able to grab the essence of the book faster than I normally learn things. And that is as a result of just how simple the book was presented by the author.

Now I can boast of a thing or two when talking to my more knowledgeable friends in this filed. I can’t really tell you if this is the best operating system, though some say it is. But then there are also those that think it’s a bit difficult. But one thing I do know, is that this book made it a lot easier for me to understand being completely clueless about the subject.

You just have to read the book then decide for yourself whether to adopt this OS since everyone is different. And reading this is hands down the best way for to make that decision.

I’ve been using Windows on all of my computers and occasionally I’ve used Macs in the past, but I have never really known much about Linux. Wanting to expand my technical horizons a little bit, I picked up this book. A friend recommended this book to me as a quick way to get started with learning more about the system, and I’m impressed. The book did a great job of breaking things down for beginners like me, and I found it really interesting to boot. Because of this book I’m confident that I can do great things with Linux, and am glad it was recommended to me.

This book is very interesting. It does what it says. It is exclusive for beginners. I generally use windows but was fascinated my Linux and always wanted to know how to. And this book is for you if you are in my shoes. This book gives you a great insight on Linux, It pretty much covers everything that a beginner like you and me should be aware of. I enjoyed it a lot. Would definitely recommend it.

Reading this book will not make you pro in Linux programming, you must practice and must understand every step. You will get to know many basic instructions and commands of Linux. This book is good for everyone who want to learn this programming. It was very interesting to know how it operates and how we can play with this program. But I found this book is just good for beginners not for advanced level.

I'm not good with computers but I was still able to understand the majority of what this book was talking about. I'm learning about Linux for my work and had no clue how to use it but after reading this book I have a basic idea of how to use it. Learning about how the basic functions was all I really need to learn for now and this book provided me that.

This is a good beginner's guide on Linux. I'm actually trying to learn it myself and I'm not very used to the way this operating system works. This guide helped me with good examples and illustrations. It was good walkthrough in Linux, it's pros and cons and how to find your way in this operating system. It also includes the certain commands you need to learn in Linux.

I am not that literate in computers but was grasp many of the ideas in this book. I loved the pictures and examples that helped me to figure out what I was reading. This was a great beginners guide.
