I saw this film several times when it came out in 1982 and I was still in my 20's. In the days of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Jane Fonda movies it was a real kick in the crotch to this (unknowingly) Naïve Suburbanite. The only "Art House" style films I had seen were in film class - and not many of those. I have watched it a few times more over the last 38 years and it is still incomparable to anything else out there in our suburban multiplex society where film analysis is more about story arcs on (yet another) Superhero Movie than on anything that actually challenges the viewer.

It would be better described as world cinema but made in America. Yeah, it IS a cheap production. But I'm sure they would've been happy to have had a bigger budget. So get over it if it bothers you. There's always another Avengers coming out so the faint-of-heart won't have their universe disturbed by things that are, you know, different. It does a lot with what it has, which is a collection of mostly amateur actors and made-on-the-fly props. One of the cast is even a NYC College Drama professor. (got to take 'em where you can find 'em!).

But for me, this is really a hilarious satire on the shallow, self-absorbed, mock-vicious, poseur-laden, post-Andy Warhol, NYC Art Scene of the 80's. No, I wasn't a part of that, but it is so obvious who the director's target is, and he really nails it! You almost feel sorry for these gaudy, creepy, drugged-out "Hollow People" (to steal a riff from old T.S.). At least they have a sense of their own humor! It's not important to re-hash the plot since that is merely a deus ex machina to carry along this moving feast of a freak show as it lurches from one set piece to another; much like the characters it depicts. It still has the power to shock with scenes of date rape, blatant drug use, and unrepentant psychological cruelty between the principles at times. I will update this review when I've watched the Blu-ray release on my 4K set-up. Truth is, I just came across this release 2 years after it came out as I've assumed for years the DVD was all there was. I am writing this at 2AM when I can't sleep, which is the best time to write anything. Buy it, watch it!

Great indie film ahead of its time. Worth seeing but not a film for those who need trigger warnings.

This is the first time this strange masterpiece is in high enough quality to actually see many of the details necessary for understanding the plot. Plus it has lots of cool extras, including interviews with the director and main actress.

I had an alert up on Roku, but I assumed that "Liquid Sky" would never come up. I had assumed it was lost in the ether and I'd never be able to buy a copy of this cult classic. I squealed when I was informed that not only did Amazon Prime have it up for free, but that I could also buy my own copy. Anne Carlise is sublime as a gender-defying alien. However, if you are not into extremely weird and campy film, this is not for you. This is only for folks who love Gregg Araki, David Lynch, or John Waters, for example. You have to have a really good sense of humor and a really open mind for this film. Even for the open-minded, at some point you will wonder if you should be offended or if the film is just trash. If you enjoyed "The Doom Generation," then you might be okay with "Liquid Sky."

Now, this film is NOT for everyone... See, the thing about stylized movies is: If you're into it, your really into it... but, if you're not, you REALLY hate it.... It's hard to explain this movie. Perhaps it's like: Kubrick directs 2001: Space Odyssey in the style of a 1970's Italian horror pic... It def starts very fragmented, but as the film goes along, all the loose ends start to come together... It's very layered in what they're trying to say in this film... You'll know pretty early if this is right for you or not, but I loved so much about how this movie looked, how it was shot, the story, and the themes they were trying to get across... instantly one of my all time favorites!

This film is a little known classic. Sure,it's B grade and the minimalist soundtrack and cheap sets seem more a throwback to 60/70's films. The special effects are nuts and the UFO about as hokey as it gets. Liquid Sky, being a nickname for heroin, was a most popular drug when this film was made. Whether or not this played a factor in the writing, the plot revolves more around the particular effect of it and how orgasums trigger the same brain chemicals the aliens thrive on. The one hit wonder cast couldn't have been better and a Hollywood remake would destroy it's charm,if it ever got an acceptable rating. Lady GaGa must have seen it as reflected in their costumes and hers. Even if not, there is a striking resemblance and this was shot in 1984. Go figure.

I will quote another Amazon Prime Member by the name of Mark Turner with, "I found that the movie fell into that category of film far too many do, a world where the end product is praised and held in high esteem in an attempt to sound like you’re part of the scene it comes from, an elite group that caters to their friends while ignoring anyone willing to fork out money to see their work. In other words pretentious crap."
I don't need to quote the dictionary definition of "pretentious" because Marky T. already did. Thanks T-Bone!
It was sad to see that the only other movie that the girl from Alice, Sweet Alice did was this j*zz stain. Now THAT is a good cult film. Well, it's an ok cult film.
This move is a pseudo-feminists' self-wallowing manifesto that paints a pathetic girl with low self esteem as the helpless victim of misogyny and drug addiction in a whirlwind of tasteless-tasteless (tasteless while trying too hard to be sexy-tasteless while staying comfy and current) costume, set, and score.
As my headline says, faux avant garde for those who's parents paid in full for their art school.

This is a tough one. It's 1983 a NYC Space Odyssey'. It's so bad its good? An original concept with too small a budget. It's a must see as an historical look at 1982 NYC punk dress and culture. It will make more sense if you're from NYC or London. Anne Carlisle is wonderful playing the two roles (spoiler alert).

film cult degli anni 80 a rivederlo oggi in alcune parti un po ridicolo ma che da una buona idea dell atmosfera del tempo. Interessante la colonna sonora elettronica , buona qualità video.

Plays in English without on screen subs but man, what the hell? Imagine if you had a nightmare where you're locked in a room with 50 really dull and boring Flock of Seagulls wannabes who are all trying to project some kind of pathetic cool while robotically taking drugs and listening to the worst, and I mean the WORST 80s new wave music you've ever heard (and btw AFOS were excellent musically, so no taking away from them). This movie has cult status with many out there but the emporer is clearly naked in my eyes. Dreadful garbage of the highest order. Hilariously terrible
