STORM is the color I bought. It is a very chic dark color and also seems a bit reflective (metallic) in the dark which I is the reason why I chose the color. I think the coat weighs about 3 oz. Ok, I haven't actually measured it but it is feather-weight! The cut is tapered around the waist so it doesn't give you the "typical" bulky feeling. I am 5'-4" at 135lbs - I bought a medium and it's perfect!
Added bonus - I bought it on sale w/ a coupon so it's double whammy awesome. It's the best coat purchase I have made in a decade!
1. Via Spiga Women’s Short Slimming Down Coat with Fur Trim, Black, Medium, $116.64
Well, this is my favorite one and I am keeping this one. It is so stylish and elegant but still young and trendy. I like the real fur collar that kind of drapes around somewhere between your neck and shoulders, which adds a casual yet smart look to the coat. The coat is really comfortable and out of all of the coats, this coat makes me look the slimmest. The down fill does not go all around the coat. The down fill is only in the front, back, and outer arms. Down the sides of the body and the inner arms, there is a kind of neoprene type material that is a little elasticated and ribbed in a diamond like pattern. I think that this will make the coat a little more likely to accommodate a sweater but allows the coat to still be extra fitted. You could wear this coat on top of a suit. I like that the arms are so fitted without being tight, and I also like the belt. The coat feels nice and warm and is not too puffy or heavy without being overly light either. I could easily get away with a small, but the medium is okay too. Because it is so fitted and I am unlikely to get smaller over time, I chose to keep the medium. I love it, my sister loves it, and best of all my husband thinks I look hot in it.
2. LOLE Women's Gisele 2 Jacket, Storm, Small, $175
Okay, I love this coat too. But my husband said that I look like I should be going to space. He also thought the fabric was really light and would rip easily. The fabric is light so I am not sure how strong it is. But most of the puffy style coats do have lighter fabric. This is a really comfortable and sexy coat. It was really nicely fitted at the base of the back so your butt pops out like it should (hard to find in a puffy coat). The waist is lovely, and the shape of the sections of the coat… or the lines in the stitching is super feminine. If you had to wear a coat inside someone’s house or a cold office, this would be perfect as it is so light and comfortable but feels super warm. The down fill in the jacket is light but not as light as some. The hems/piping on the wrists and on the bottom have no give so this might be good for someone who wants the coat to stay in place. I love the color storm with the red inside. The shiny outside is super trendy. The coat is really sporty. The small is a perfect fit. I really loved this coat too but it was much more than the other two I wanted to keep and my hubby didn’t like it… so I am sending it back. BTW, my sister loved this coat too. I think it is a coat a woman will love but a man with go… ehhh.
3. Larry Levine Women's 3/4 Length Down Coat with Faux Crushed Chinchilla Trim, Black, Medium, $63.79
This coat is wonderful but not gorgeous. When I put it on, I thought wow… it has a built in scarf and hat. The fur is so soft and the fur is on the inside of the hood and around the collar of the coat. The hood ties nice and tightly around your head if you want it too. The best thing is the face guard… if you zip the coat all the way up, the collar almost comes to your eyes. There is a belt feature built in that is sewn to the jacket; so you don’t have to tie a belt and you won’t lose the belt. The waist is not really fitted though… but I was wearing a medium. The medium did give me a bit of room to move up top though. Given all the horrible weather we are having, some people would die for a coat like this – a warm coat that has a waist (albeit not a super fitted waist), with a hood, scarf, and face mask… what a find. It is kind of a bit stylish but not a wow looking coat. My husband said that you could wear it to an interview but would likely hang it in the lobby. One other thing… it zips up easily with a flap over the zip to protect you from wind. This would be the perfect coat to pop out quickly at night to run an errand or walk the dog. I am keeping this one as it is just too practical and comfortable to pass on and it looks pretty good too. Oh, a small would be better but they only had the medium.
4. Cole Haan Women's Belted Taffeta Down, Ink, Small, $192.38
The quality of this coat is hands-down the best of the nine. It shouts high class all the way. It is the kind of coat a really spoilt girl would get from her daddy. It is very comfortable and warm and well made. The ink color is so dark and has a nice shine to it. The gold buckles look rich and elegant. The belt is very fitted so gives you a nice waist. It is just a bit too puffy around the bottom of the coat for me. Also, there are only a few panels in it and I like the look of the many sewn panels in the other coats. This wasn’t for me but it is gorgeous. Someone will love this coat. The fit was perfect.
5. Anne Klein Women's Ines Down Coat, Black, Medium, $101.25
I also loved this coat but the medium was huge on me. This coat is also really comfortable and is really well made too. This was my fifth favorite coat. I might have wanted to keep it if I had tried on the right size because it seemed really well made and was the perfect weight.
6. Briana Happy Goat Lucky 600 Fill Power Light Weight 26" Down Jacket, Lattee, (size 4) $180
This coat and the next coat are the same in terms of review. They were too small for me, which is probably because I am a size 5! They are absolutely gorgous coats. If I had the money, I would so love to keep these coats. They are so different and young and comforatable. These coats would be perfect for a teenager or young woman but well made enough to don the real woman lol.
7. Rachael 600 Fill Power Light Weight 26" Down Jacket, Champange, (size 4) $199
8. Ellen Tracy Outerwear Packable Down Chevron Tie Waist Coat, Black, Medium, $93.15
Hmm… too thin and not enough shape to the coat. Alright but not for me. Too relaxed and slouchy looking. Made my bum look big.
9. Bench Women's Detention Jacket, Black, Medium, $108.81
Too long and puffy. The stitching is awesome. The coat would look absolutely stunning on someone really thin.
