About the Author
Yuri Okunev is a scientist, an author of monographs, scientific papers and patents in the field of signal processing in Russian and English. Last years he also published books of the history-journalistic genre in Russian: "Letters to dears from the XX century", (2002), and "The axis of the world history", 2004 (Publishing House "Iskusstvo Rossii", St. Petersburg). The novelette "The Lost War" belongs to the genre of anti-utopia. Unlike the utopists who portray the future where the humankind has overcome all shortcomings of the present) the anti-utopists portraying the future, in fact, are concerned with the present, and project the faults of the present into the future using dark and grotesque stylistic methods. This anti-utopia first appeared in 2003 in Russian science fiction magazine "Polden - XXI Vek" published by a world-famous writer Boris Strugatsky. The novelette was published in Russian under the title "The Long Unhappy Life of Bill Stressner"."The Lost War" is an alert, a severe warning to those who live today about the future that awaits our descendants if we will not be able to stop the horror of terrorism and the ideology of obscurantism.
