Unvarnished true story that tells it like it is. One of the most amazing people of the 20 century who was unexcelled in his ability as a technician on the trumpet but also as an ambassador of a helluva lot of good will in this world. You don't get bored with this book but can hardly wait for the next page. I got my copy from a banjo playing friend Bruce Leland, that he signed for me knowing that I would treasure it and I have since 1979. This book is also a great history book. Buy a Louie CD and read the book--the music will remind you of the times of Louis Armstrong as you read this amazing fantastic book. In 1956, I stood 10 feet away from Louie and his band for 2 hours and grooved to his sounds in the Avalon ballroom in Lacrosse, Wi. It was standing room only and one of the greatest and most memorable nights of my life. This book chronicles that feeling as it tells his life story. I am buying my younger brother one right now--yeah, the same guy that bought the biggest best black Harley he could get and named it LOUIE.
