A nice short EP from J to the Muah

It's been a little over 2 years since Jada's last major label, full-length album, and here he brings you a short, what I'd almost call an EP, with 9 songs, I guess to hold his fans over (as the title of the album applies). Going on around 15 years since him & the rest of the LOX/D-Block trio was first heard. Starting as the main man of the trio, he has fallen to the back (as far as in terms of albums/mixtapes and material he has put out. Over say, the past 4-5 years with Sheek & Styles being a main part of or dropping at least one and at times up to 4 a year). All in all I have 17 albums that Jadakiss has been a major part of (be it solo albums/mixtpaes, or being a main member of a group album or compilation). Of those; 2 are LOX albums, 8 are LOX or D-Block albums or mixtapes, 4 are Ruff Ryders compilations, and the remaining are solo's or solo mixtapes. This one I'd say is my least favorite of the solo works of his that I own, though it is still definitely a nice album & worhty of 4 stars (he usually just puts out 4.5 or 5 star material). Compared with his other solo's here's how I'd rank it:

"Kiss Tha Game Goodbye" (8/01) - 5/4.5 star (borderline classic)
"Kiss of Death" (6/04) - 5/4.5 star (borderline classic)
"The Last Kiss" (4/09) - 4 stars
"Kingpin" (mixtape - 6/10) - 4 stars

Of the 9 songs on here, 3 are ok/average, 5 are good or real good songs, and 1 I'd say is a near-classic. Guests are very heavy; on every song but 1 (rapping on 3 and doing the hook/chorus on the other 5). He still has that killer flow delivered in that raspy voice. Just over the past few years he hasn't been as much street/grimy/hustling oriented toward his lyrics and song feel and has more & more of that awful radio-friendly/commercial sound; his lyrics are still up there with the best of them, he just needs to go back a notch or 2 on the commercial appeal with the songs production/beats and choruses. Which leads me into the production; it has it's ups and downs. Duane "DaRock" Ramos does 2 songs, Jay "Icepick" Jackson", Bink! One SHot Deal, Pav Bundy, Remo, Mr. Inkredible, J Butta, and Black Saun each do 1 song. A nice album for his fans, but he definitely has done better albums in the past.

#4 - 8 (f/ Kenya Nelson)
#5 - 7.5 (f/ Teyana Taylor - probably would be an 8.5 without the annoying chanting in the background thru the song)
#6 - 9.5 (f/ Amin -- great beat & deeper lyrics, best song on here)
#7 - 9 (f/ Styles (one of those great tracks where they trade lyrics back & forth) & Chynk Show -- tight beat)
#9 - 8 (f/ Fred teh Godson -- who if he is supposed to be the future, shows why rap is so bad these days, just another average commercial sounding young'n)
#10 - 7 (f/ Rick Ross & Trae -- disappointed as I'm not a huge Ross fan but he's decent and I'm a huge fan of Trae, but this is definitely not one of his brighter spots)
#11 - 8.5 (f/ Komika Hall -- another nice deep song)

Jada at a new level

I actually bought this when it first came out (I was on the waiting list), but I'm just getting to the review. It's classic Jadakiss, but now it's more about what he has gotten instead of where he came from and I wasn't really feelin' that. I consider myself Jada's biggest fan, but if he continues on this track...I'll have to fall back. If I want to hear about money, cars and ho's...I'll buy a 50 cent CD. I love you Jada...take in back to the streets it the next one, please!!!
