My daughter is going into 2nd grade now and she’s still not overly excited to sit and get lost in a book. She’s reading “at grade level” according to her teacher but I felt she could definitely use a boost before school starts back up. This has been so helpful to reinforce skills in a fun and laid back setting!! She’s now even taking it a step further and “teaching” my 5 year old how to play too! I think watching her explain what she has learned may be even more exciting than her learning it herself in the first place! Also major shout out to Lovevery for continuing to make aesthetically pleasing stuff that I don’t feel like I have to constantly shove in a closet.

About this item
- 1ST and 2ND GRADE READING SKILLS: Part 3 of The Reading Skill Set’s phonics-based approach teaches reading skills that build on each other across 3 skill-groups: Advanced Vowel Rules, Prefixes & Suffixes, and Chapter Books.
- SKILL-BUILDING, SCREEN-FREE GAMES: When learning to read is fun, motivation stays high. All reading skills are taught through interactive games and activities, many of which are self-correcting and can be played independently.
- CONFIDENCE-BUILDING BOOKS: Each book practices the skills learned with the games. Plus, there’s a review page in the front that ensures your child has a good understanding of the skills needed to read the book and avoids encountering any confidence-busting words.
- INCLUDES 4 GAMES & 27 BOOKS: Your child will learn through play with 4 games, like the Ends With E Adventure Game, Vowel Team Penguin Walk, and Prefix & Suffix Story Fix, then practice with 27 fun-to-read books, starting with the Final e Book Series and ending with reading chapter books with uncontrolled text all on their own.
- PARENTS DON’T NEED TO BE EXPERTS: You’ll get access to a Play Guide and an online portal with guidance on why each skill matters, how to support your child's reading journey, game tutorials, ideas for practicing skills, and tips to keep play fun.
- BACKED BY EXPERTS: Lovevery’s Reading Advisory Board includes literacy experts from Stanford University, The New York Public Library, KIPP Foundation, Toddlers CAN Read, and more.
- PART 3 OF A 3-PART PROGRAM: The Reading Skill Set is a 3-part program that spans skills taught from Pre-K to 2nd grade. Each part moves at your child’s pace with skills that build on each other all the way to chapter books. Find the part that is the best starting point for your child below.

Each box in the set focuses on a specific reading skill, starting with advanced vowel rules like the final 'e', vowel pairs, and the influence of the letter 'r' on vowels. These concepts are supported by individual games and readers that reinforce what the child is learning, which makes the experience both educational and fun. The second box dives into prefixes and suffixes, again with its own set of readers and engaging activities that make learning new words more intuitive. Finally, the third box introduces engaging chapter books that help integrate all the skills learned in previous stages.
One of the standout features is the high quality and beautiful presentation of all the components, from the books to the games. The contents are clearly organized by skill groups, making it easy to follow the intended progression. The included booklet provides clear instructions and useful background information, which helps guide you through each activity seamlessly.
The packaging is elegant and well-thought-out, adding to the overall appeal of the set. However, a bit more guidance on how to decode the sequence and identify which series to start with would be helpful. Also, it’s worth noting that the red decoder wand is found in the Series 5 and another in Series 6, which may cause some confusion if not closely followed.
This set effectively supports children as they transition from early reading skills to more advanced rules and chapter books, making it a valuable resource for parents looking to boost their child’s reading journey.
The LOVEVERY Reading Skill Set is a fantastic tool for children who have a basic foundation in reading but aren’t quite ready for chapter books or need extra practice and confidence. This set is thoughtfully designed as a three-box progression, making it easy to guide kids through different stages of reading development.

This set is for kids who already have a foundation with sounding out words and basic reading skills, but aren’t quite ready for easy chapter books, or who need extra reading confidence and practice in general. (They will be confidently reading chapter books by the end!) The set is well organized as a three box progression, with all the components and books being a high quality and beautifully made! The first box begins with teaching three vowel concepts: the final e, vowel pair combinations, and how vowels change with the letter r. Each of these skills has its own game, as well as readers that focus on the what the student is learning. The next box focuses on prefixes and suffixes, including 5 more readers and a fun story activity. And the final box has some really engaging chapter books that integrate everything the student has learned.
I’m using this in our homeschool, and my kids are most excited about the games, while my favorite part is the books! All of them are so thoughtfully written, with realistic storylines from diverse perspectives, and reading comprehension questions at the end. They also all portray healthy family relationships (i.e. involved parents, siblings working together, etc.), positive messages, and some even have educational storylines (e.g. learning about animals). The progression of the books is wonderful, as the reader is able to focus on the skills they are learning, without encountering frustrating concepts that they haven’t mastered yet. Some of the books even have a built-in interactive element, like the red decoder tools in two of the books that allow the student to find and read hidden codes. (These decoders can also be used apart from the books to write hidden messages back and forth with your child, using green and red pens!) The chapter book, The Time Capsule, has built in envelopes throughout, which hold exciting little notes and keepsakes from the grandma in the story that the student can discover as they read.
This set is so fantastic, and really makes learning fun!

This set is part 3 of a set you would buy when teaching your kid how to read. I highly recommend getting the other parts too if you have a younger child who’s getting ready to start school. This set comes with an array of different books that focus on the basics of the part that is being learned. You have books that teaches the vowels and even comes with a learning based game to make learning fun. This set comes in three different categories to start so you can advance a bit as you learn more. This is very well thought out and very useful to have.
