- Marimos, one of the National Treasures of Japan, are used as the first pet, as a decoration ornament and also as a fun toy for your aquatic pets. Marimo is a favorite toy of fishes, betta & shrimps. They love playing with marimos and some use marimos like a comfy hiding spot.
- Marimos help in improving the quality of your aquarium by absorbing pollutants such as phosphates, nitrates, and ammonia, thus creating a conducive environment for your precious aquatic pets. Plus, caring for an aquatic pet has never been so easy. They can be placed anywhere in an aquarium, a jar or even a glass with tap water!
- Marimo is a very popular plant in Japan. The growth rate of Marimo is about 5 mm per year. Hence a giant marimo is about 7 years old!
- The Japanese believe that Marimo will bring good luck. Hence, they grow it in a glass bottle with just some water & ceiling light. Water change is only required once every 2 weeks. This plant does NOT cause algae problem. Negligible maintenance required.

There are 3 big balls ( 5×4.1×1 ), and 1 mini.
They were very healthy looking, and no brown spots.
After 24 hours of floating on the top of the water, I decided to take them out and continuously squeezing out the air bubbles.
They eventually floated to the bottom.
A moss ball is an interesting addition to any kind of tank.
They add green color to your settings, and can draw small amounts of Nitrate from the water.
They would otherwise feed less desirable forms of Algae.
Also their Fibrous Filaments provide small amounts of additional surface area to host beneficial bacteria.
But most importantly they provide tank inhabitants with something to climb on, explore, hide behind, rest under, and feed from.
Red Cherry, Ghost Shrimp are very fond of Moss Ball's.
I will definitely getting more, I find them very interesting.
I hope you find this information helpful in your buying decision. I received this product for a discount in a exchange of my honest and unbiased review.
These are genuine Marimo balls too! Unlike many other companies with false accusations. If I didn't have so many already, j would definitely order more from this company. I highly recommend them and I highly approve of their products.
I originally decided to purchase these little guys for the sheer fact I needed a sentimental gift for my spouse whom I'm not doing so well with. The Marimo represents love, at least according to Japanese folklore, that in fond of since I am Japanese. :) In the country, a legend surrounds the Marimo and its connection to a tribal chief’s daughter. According to the story, the girl ran away with her lover when her father didn’t approve of their relationship. Their love was so strong that many people believe their spirit gave birth to the Marimo and still exists within it today. Because of this story, the Marimo is known as the “love plant,” as it is said that the algae can recognize true love. Many people choose to give a Marimo to the person they hope to spend the rest of their lives with. Too bad my spouse does not care for them and is still mad at me. But oh well.
And secondly I purchased this for my child since he can't really ever seem to keep his hands out of the fish tanks I get for him and wipes out the entire tank. My little boy is super ecstatic about his little fluffy ball of mess marimo. A happy kiddo makes me a happy mother. Especially because of the low maintenance and the sheer fact that marimo can perform photosynthesis with any type of lighting. So that makes it easier along with the once a week water change.Read more ›

When they arrived, I soaked them in tap water to refresh them after their trip. I then cleaned them up, by running tap water over them, squeezing water in and out of them. Rolling them between my palms helps to maintain their round shape. I plan to separate them in half to make smaller ones. They require very little maintenance, just cleaning them out once in a while under running tap water. If you have some in a jar, you need to change out the tap water about once a week to keep them happy. They do not need bright, direct light, as they come from under a lake with very filtered sunlight.

I received this item at a promotional discount price for the purpose of evaluation in order to form my own honest and unbiased opinion and review. I am in no way connected or related to the seller.
Shipping was very prompt. I'll admit, I had no clue how these would come packaged and imagined some type of cup full of water. All four moss balls came dry packaged in a plastic bag about sandwich bag sized but thicker. After taking them out of the bag and running them under water they fluffed right up and regained their shape. All four balls were a lush green when they arrived and all are very healthy. When I first put them in their jar they floated for a bit but all sank like research said they would.
I am very much looking forward to getting our fish. I have read that these balls will help filter the water and keep the tank clean. They are very low maintenance and the perfect addition to our busy lives. So far they are fun as is and we love seeing them on our bookshelf. The little one is so adorable.
I received this product at a discount for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
