I was surprised that this has no VGA port, unlike the Office+ model in the identical case. Windows without a display sounds like trouble. I guess they saved five bucks with this. Great idea.

But I tried anyway, because I had it shipped Saturday delivery for a Sunday install that will never happen. Perhaps because I had plugged into 100BT network by a screen, instead of the 1000BT on my desk, the setup took four hours ("may take up to 30 minutes") on my fast laptop. The progress meter would freeze for twenty or thirty minutes at 3% and 4% (and 3% again!). Meanwhile the blue cyclops light (kinda cool) on the server was flashing constantly, which it does when it boots.

It also flashes FOREVER when the server is waiting for a login! So there is no display to show it has booted!

The install disk, after the long invisible install, forces you to install a Server 2011 access and backup program to configure or RDC it, which took another long while. Finally I get in, and install Logmein and Chrome, and it is looking up. I turn on the Guest account, and I can log into the server without the utility. Great. Then, as I am starting to set up mirrored disks with the other 4 Seagate Barracudas (same as it came with), boom. Logmein goes offline. I also had an RDC window open from when I installed Logmein. It also died, and retried over and over. I rebooted, but no way to tell if it did, because I could never remote control again.

Give me a screen for friggin Windows. It is not stable enough for RC only, in my eyes. Amazon shipped the machine right back and I ordered the Office+ with Server 2008 and a display port. Money saver: if you don't need 10TB, order the 2TB machine and add 4 1TB Seagates at $65 each to save a few hundred bucks, though you do have to configure them.

I've had the LaCie 5big Office for about 3 months. I added 3 2TB hard drives to the original configuration (total of 8TB). It was a big pain in the neck to set up. However, since I got it running it's been great. It's a tiny box that sits in the corner and backs up every PC in my house every night. I also use it for shared storage for my whole family.

What I find nice about it:

It's simple to use.
I have a daily backup of every PC in my house.

What I don't like about it:

It's not easy to set up.
The warning light blinks after the server boots (e.g., after patches are installed) until I log into it.
Home Server gives too many warnings about problems with PC's. I've had to turn off all of these warnings or I would have gone crazy looking at so many of them.

Cloud, cloud, cloud... This way I know my data is mine. Yes I use the cloud for some things but others are just too sensitive to put on someone else's hardware. I can access this from anywhere and push items to it when needed.

The machine is unable to do a Bare Bones Restore of Windows 8 with a hard drive of 2T or greater. Could not install the connector software on Win 8, told it was not compatible. This made remote desktop to a local machine not function. Tech support via email / web site was OK, but only excuses why it didn't work as stated on their site

Lacie 5Big Office and Office+ are great boxes to give you NAS and backup. I love the look and its functionality. The only thing they are missing are iSCSI and I found that from intelisan
