About the Author

Ryan Jennings Peterson stumbled upon the joy of reading and writing at an early age. His first book he created in grade school: A collection of original Christmas stories and illustrations put to paper and given as a holiday gift to his grandparents. In the summer of 2011, Ryan completed his debut novel, On the Ladder of Humanity, a detective thriller following his heroine, Jolene Hartley, into the twist and turn world of murder. Ryan's second novel, On the Edge of Greed, was completed just months later, with a third untitled novel in the works.

I read this gem shortly after finishing the Millenium trilogy, and honestly would suggest this book over the works of Stieg Larsson. A gripping story with wonderful character development and a pull you along storyline. Each chapter ends with you wanting more. The other reviewers have hit the nail on the head.... I can't wait for the next Jolene Hartley novel to come out! Well done RJP... Well done. Any fan of suspense/crime novels NEEDS to pick this one up!!

On the Ladder of Humanity is one of the better books I've read in a while. After the first 4 chapters, I was 95% sure it was a good book, and upon finishing it, I was 100% sure. This novel wasn't just about an invenstigation, but also about the lives of the characters which had me continually turning the pages and ended up finishing the book before I wanted it to be finished. The book had a good ending, pulling together the various aspects of the plot, but I still didn't want it to be over. Definitely looking forward to the next book in the Jolene Hartley trilogy!

I was very impressed with this novel. It drew you in with the prologue, and then kept my interest as the case was eventually solved. I look forward to reading more from this author and hope he delivers many more books as good as this in the future.

The book was excellent.
The writer has written excellent books for his first two books published.
I would buy any new book he writes.
I would recommend to readers of David Baldacci, Lee Child, James Patterson, John Sanford.

Although penned by a novice author, "On the Ladder of Humanity" seamlessly combines mystery, crime, politics, law enforcement, and a bit of romance into a very readable work of literary fiction. The authors' obvious familiarity with Chicago and its historical neighborhoods is well-weaved into the story, both demographically and economically. The main character, Police Detective Jolene Hartley exhibits toughness and tenacity, without compromising her femininity. I look forward to reading Mr. Peterson's next offering, "On the Edge of Greed". In this day of self-publication, most first-time authors remain one-time authors......Mr. Peterson has already bucked that trend, and has a promising future.

Reading a good mystery/thriller novel is one of my favorite pastimes, and this book certainly fit the criteria for a really good mystery/thriller!! The characters were believable and likeable, and the plot was interesting and not predictable. It was hard not to finish this book the day I started it - not easy to put down! It's hard to believe this was the inaugural book by this new author. I look forward to reading his next Jolene Hartley offering, and hope there will be many more to follow!
