Update: I've used it a bunch more and it has worked very well for me, as is. I actually think I like the carabiner because I've had to move and change ladders frequently, which means a lot of moving this thing around. I like that when I pull it out of the ladder rungs, I know the bucket is clipped on and can't fall off. I actually carry it up and down the ladder by the grippy rubber part and let the bucket hang. It feels very solid this way, and I've never even come close to dropping/spilling anything.
