Not to give away the story, there are a lot of twist and turns which are fascinating. With adventure, intrigue, hidden secrets (Yes, Lady Fallows' who is Gerald and Tom's mother that has just passed away) and a couple of heartwarming romances, this story has it all. This is the first book I have read by Suzanne G Rogers and what a great one to be introduced to her stories! She is now part of my "read every book" author list and cannot wait to pick up the next one.
Ashley’s sister, Sybil, is devastated by Ashley’s condition. She has been taking care of him for the last 10 years since the death of their mother. Her father, Harold, who has never been the same since the death of his wife, can only hold his head in his hands and worry about his son who held such promise as a publish poet at the young age of 23.
In London Quincy confiscates all of Euphonia’s mail, locks her in her room at night and when he must leave the house, hires a driver/guard to keep an eye on Euphemia whenever she must be allowed to go anywhere, and insists she marry the man he has chosen for her as soon as possible. Gerald Reeves, Viscount Fallows, the man Euphemia’s uncle has chosen as her husband-to-be is known to all the lowest gambling establishments in London and is in debt up to his ears. Lord Fallows would usually not be allowed to court any young lady of the ton, but Quincy Exeter has arranged that after he marries Euphemia they will split her inheritance money 50/50. Euphonia is desperate to find a way to escape the situation.
Lord Fallows’ younger half-brother, Tom Reeves, is nothing like him. Tom has never understood why Gerald has hated him all his life. At his mother’s funeral he meets Gerald’s fiancé and she gives him a book of psalms to comfort him. Afterwards Tom finds the book bears a note from Euphemia begging for his help. Her note explains she needs to meet with him secretly and when he does he learns she is being held against her will and desperately needs his help in contacting Ashley.
After that the story gets really interesting as Sybil & Tom, and Euphonia & Ashley, make a surprisingly good plan to rescue Euphonia and let true love take its course to happiness for all of them. I loved how the author made the story so interesting with plot twists that never let the story sink into the usual clichés of similar stories.
I enjoyed this book very much and recommend it to anyone who likes Victorian Romance with a bit of adventure as well. The story was a clean romance which I appreciate very much, well written, and greatly entertaining. Definitely a 5 stars story. I received a free copy of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.
If you like stories about friendship, poignant romance, and enjoy a satisfying adventurous plot, you will love Lady Fallows’ Secrets.
I received a review copy from the author’s representative, but this opinion is my own.
