Lord Henry seeks a traitor. His plans go awry as he follows his prey toward Stonehill. He’s ambushed, by Cade/Katherine. Freed by her, he’s imprisoned by the unhonorable knight in charge at Stonehill as an imposter.
Cade and her small, loyal band enable Lord Henry’s escape. Then they struggle to stay one step ahead of the traitor and his allies.
Ms. Bettis demonstrates her skill weaving a plot full of twists and turns. From the very first scene I was cheering for the triumph of honor and love.
The Lady of the Forest by Barbara Bettis is a medieval love story at its best! She's weaved a compelling story filled with great characters, suspense, and intrigue that you will keep your interest until the very last page. I love her style of writing because she is very a descriptive storyteller. It's no secret that I love medieval romance, therefore, her captivating story really pleased me. Katherine, the feisty heroine, and Henry, the powerful knight, will steal your heart. Ms. Bettis didn’t disappoint me!
Their story takes place in Nottinghamshire, England 1197. While Henry is searching for a traitor named Paxton, he is suddenly attacked by a group of youths and taken prisoner. He just can't believe what's happening! He is mistakenly taken for the traitor that he's searching for. However, someone in the group will recognize him and set him free. Katherine is the lady of the forest, and she is a brave but a stubborn heroine willing to protect her people, but at any cost? Will she trust Henry enough to tell him her secret? As their journey progresses, her heart will be torn between her duty to protect her people and the man she loves! All together, they will embark on a long and perilous journey of twists and turns! Can Katherine and Henry's love survived against all odds?
If you are in the mood for a fast-paced medieval adventure, then The Lady of the Forest will surely please you. I loved the beautiful chemistry between Katherine and Henry, and also loved the secondary characters, Sam'l, Oscar and Jamie. I highly recommend The Lady of the Forest because it is an excellent historical romance! A great tale to enjoy! You are in for a treat! Readers will love it!
Unlike many romances with that familiar "we knew each other as children" hero and heroine, Bettis builds on a relationship in the present with the past being almost insignificant except to confirm his identity after so many years and for the cheer enjoyment for those of us that enjoy that kind of thing. And I do ;)
Congratulations on a wonderful novella full of characters we can cheer for and a surprising plot line that hooks you in from the beginning!
