The author has a wonderful sense of humor which he injects into each scene even in the midst of danger and intrigue. He writes in an easy manner that enables the reader to feel right at home and part of the action.
The characters in all this series are the same but far from humdrum. The main character, Walt Williams, is a former real estate agent now turned cop. He takes on danger and laughs into its face. Along with his love, now wife, Maggie, they get into all kinds of hot water while on their honeymoon in Hawaii. Danger seems to be following them at ever turn. They take two of their friends with them for the ceremony, Willie, an ex-con and Mary, a 200 pound no nonsense woman who is the manager of Walt's apartment building.
This series is a welcome change in mysteries or detective books because of the author's innate ability to hook the reader from the first word and not let go until the last. I am a big fan!
I already read a book way later in this series and noticed that some jokes get a repeat. I am going to wait a few months, than read on with this series, because I do like Walt. He's a character !
You've got an "old" guy fighting crime who finds himself in all sorts of situations.
It is written with a good sense of humor. No matter how dire the circumstances,
you know Walt will come out ok because, well, lets face it, there are 21 books in the series (so far)!
These are meant to entertain you. If you prefer the 100% realistic totally serious detective novels, this is not for you.
But if you like to have a good time while you follow the adventures of Walt and his friends and don't mind a corny line here and there, you will love these. After reading the second book, I loved it so much I ordered an autographed copy from the author!
Right now this 3 book Kindle set is only 99¢, which is a real steal! I highly recommend it.

I read the novels penned by Mr Thornhill very easily. The language is easy and flows in a natural way, the plot lines are engaging and the portrayal of key characters had me knowing and seeing the people who populate Walt Williams' world clearly. They are very human, with all the faults and heroism that is mixed in most of mankind. I found myself being drawn to the characters and hoping to encounter them in the following novels. I was delighted that he had kept the core friends alive and active throughout the 3 volume novels.
Sometimes you are struck by the tenderness shown in parts sometimes you are ambushed by quite hilarious anecdotes. I can't say more than please try this clever author's works. Should you chose to read this collection I am sure you will be delighted and enchanted too. By the way, each successive novel to me was a better work than the previous one.
I am looking forward to reading more by Mr Thornhill. A clever book that is well written is a treasure.
