Hannah is a stubborn, independent minded young lady who has no desire to get married and is furious when her father increases her dowry to tempt gentleman to court her. Hannah has a plan and now all she needs is a Gentleman to help her with her scheme.
Alex is the darling of the Ton. He is also one of Hannah’s business partners and they have always bickered and got on each other nerves. Alex hides the smart businessman side of his personality behind dressing smart and being devil may care.
When Hannah asks Alex to pretend that they are thinking about getting married, Alex is furious that Hannah apparently does not really know him and sets out to teach her a lesson she won’t soon forget. Unfortunately Hannah has a bigger problem, she is being blackmailed and now the blackmail has turned to Murder and the people she loves are in peril..
What will she do and how does Alex fit into the villains threats.
Wendy writes a great book that leaves you guessing till the very end. There is danger, excitement, and intrigue. The witty dialogue between the all the characters in the book had me laughing out loud. And the love scenes were alluring and sweet. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone as a stand alone or if you have read the other books in the series you already know how delightful her writing is.

I also like that Hannah and Alex didn't just wake up one day and say 'Oh, we love each other now'. There was still conflict and the relationship was allowed to develop in a way that made it believable. Hannah stood up for what she believed in and did what she thought was right, and consequently lead Alex on a merry chase. The heroines of Ms. Vella's books don't just give up when they face a challenge - they are very much independent and strong-willed. I don't enjoy Regency-era books that allow the male characters to dictate the progress of the relationship, and that absolutely doesn't happen in these books. The men are strong characters, don't get me wrong; but they also have to work a little bit to win their ladies. There may be instant attraction, but the women don't run and hide at the first sign of trouble. Actually, they cause some of it!
I only recently discovered this author, but she is already one of my 'must haves'. Her characters are believable, and I LIKE them, which doesn't always happen.
