Owen JONES, born in UK lives in Thailand since approximately ten years. When you read this book, and the three first of the colection you see that it's very realistic, especially if you have ever been in this beautiful country called the land of smiles.
In this book you meet the main characters: Lek, Ayr, Soom, Nong, Greg and others that you have discovered in the first of the collection Behind the smile.
But it's not necessary to have read these books to appreciate The girl in the tree.
It's a very good book, where there are many stories: thriller, when you will see the mains characters confronted with a local mafia. Love story, when you will see that on of the main character discovers love. Politial Western, when you see that one of the main character decides to implicate herself in the political life of the village. And I will say fantastic (or religious), because in Issan even if people are buddhist, they believe in spirits (Phi in Thaï).
If you are interested by Thailand, peoples who live in Thailand and want to know how they live today in a little village in this country I advice you to buy this book, it's very realistic and you will read it with a great pleasure.
