Lady Washington was the first American sailing vessel to sail round the horn and a make landing on the Northwest Coast. She was the first to arrive in Japan, and among the earliest merchant vessels flying American colors to enter the world of international trade. From her indefatigable early years as a privateer fighting for the freedom of the colonies, to her adventures along unexplored coasts, she represented what it meant to be American. In this compelling new book, she is given her own narrative and well-deserved place in history.

Interesting look at the history behind an important expedition.

This book reads as if it were written by a high schooler. Quite a bit of fictitious assumptions written as "fact". The research for this book feels very thin, and she never goes into factual detail on anything. Great book for a kid, I just expected more. For this story was a great event in our history, I just wish the author had done research.

The author has a talent for narrative. If the idea of a history book bores you, this one may change your mind as it's written in a quick and engaging style. Also, I appreciated the numerous sources that the author quotes in the text, going so far as to present contradictory sources on multiple occasions, so that we the readers can see a wider scope of possibilities. You'll enjoy a great adventure of a wooden Lady and her crew, and you'll learn about an important slice of history. In short, highly recommended.
