Editorial Reviews

Review

As a professional proofreader and editor I know when I read an exceptionally engaging story that is so charming and well crafted, it stays with me for a long time afterward. Laguna Lights is one of those rare books that comes along and delights the reader with its engaging story, characters, and surprising plot. Anyone with romance in their hearts will absolutely love this book and remember it for a long time after. ~ Olivia Wade Alexander

From the Author

I had so much fun writing this story! Laura came across as a bit of a bad girl in the original Laguna Beach story, the selfish "it" girl who left her friends in the dust to pursue a career as a star in LA. This story is her redemption and her chance for true love. I had a blast with this one - and I loved including a dog, her sidekick named Tucker who is named after and based on my four-legged buddy.

When I began I didn’t like Laura very much. She was self centered, pampered and spoiled. She was caught up in her celebrity. Not caring about the ugliness that became herself and her life. All she thought about was herself. Scott was the same to me but he at least saw the reality of it and accepted it for what it was. It took Laura some time and deep soul searching to see it.

When she feels at her lowest she goes home and this is when her world changes and so will the opinion of her. She meets Paul.

Paul is a sweet guy. Nice and good. Honest and caring. He wants to protect her and be her last everything. The attraction is instant and so is the heat they have. These two sizzle but she is afraid. Afraid of letting go of her old life. although she loves feeling protected and cared for. Of not having to always be in control. Of having someone wanting to care for her and not care about her celebrity status but for her. One car accident and Paul coming to take care of her and her world changes. She begins to change and see what she became and where she wants to go from there. Paul helped her here. He supported her, cared for her and showed her love and patience. He believed in her and wanted to be her everything.

Seeing her change was wonderful. Once Paul enters her world you slowly come around to liking her. He really helps her see what she had become and what she truly wanted. She stands up for herself and with Paul’s love and faith in her and her talents she grows and becomes confident in herself. she sees she is more than just celebrity that she is just Laura. Laura- a kind person who wants to love and be loved. Who wants to do what she loves fashion and not what her mom desired celebrity. She finds love and so much much more with Paul.

Welcome back to Laguna! This is book three in the Laguna Beach Series, and I was intrigued to see it was going to focus on Laura.
Now let me say Laura hasn't been painted in the best of light in the previous books, coming across as a first class bitch, so I couldn't wait to see how Kaira was going to make her into a likeable character.

Laura has broken up with Scott her long term on/off boyfriend from the show they did in high school, and whilst she is upset she isn't really all that surprised as things weren't great between then lately. On her way home from LA to Laguna she get in a accident in her car, Paul Dorn happens to see it happen - right outside the store he works - and goes to her aid. She definitely wasn't expecting a connection with someone so soon after Scott but she undeniably attracted to him and cant wait to see him again.

Paul works at the Surf Shack and all is not what it appears about him - he left his high flying job in New York to work in a Surf shop! There is more to him that meets they eye in a great way, but you will just have to read it to find out more.

As for Laura, I was glad that my inital thoughts of her were changed as this book progressed - she began to acknowledge her past behaviours and I actually felt sorry for her having to make herself into that person to think she would get somewhere.
A great addition to the series and for all this can be read as a stand alone I do highly recommend you read the the whole series.

I've been curious how Laguna Lights would turn out with Laura's story ever since Laguna Nights came out where Laura had messed with Madison's life.

Laura created her Reality TV Persona back in high school when her and many of her classmates were on reality tv show called Laguna Nights. Years after the show had ended, Laura's found that she's become that persona, even off set from any tv show. Talk about waking up from a nightmare if that's someone you've never truly wanted to become.

After finding out her long-term boyfriend from high school has been looking up other women, Laura's finding herself questioning her own happiness. She's finally realizing she's been chasing after a dream that wasn't even hers, rather than focusing on her own happiness.
After a crash meeting with Paul Dorn, a worker at a surf shop in Laguna Beach studying the marketing of his own products, Laura questions whether she wants to keep chasing that dream or focus on her own happiness.

Throughout the story, Laura's mother got on my nerves. At one point, Laura's mother tried to get Laura back with her long-time boyfriend, Scott, who Laura recently split with, even though Scott had been looking for other women while being with Laura, rather than focusing on what would make Laura happy. It seems like Laura's mother doubted Laura's own ability to provide for herself.

There was one incident in the book that confused me at first. At one chapter, Laura and Paul had just met a few days ago. The next chapter jumped to two weeks later. All the rest of the chapters after listed the time period or how much time has passed from the previous chapter to the new one.

I was very pleased with how Laura's story turned out. I enjoyed reading from Laura's point of view.
