Cousins Maggie and Jenny are sharing their Grandmother’s house, on Gran’s request after moving into an assisted care facility. While Jenny’s tastes lean to science, physics and the more tangible, Maggie is enthralled by history and romance, and particularly enamored of an ancestor some 7 centuries earlier.
When Mop escapes the confines of the yard and heads into the wildly overgrown wood surrounding the home, Maggie chases after him. Ever-frustrating near misses soon have her lost and completely fed up with the dog. Then, in the center of a stone circle stands her prey….
Waking up to face large, fierce, unwashed men with arrows, kilts and assuming she is a Cameron spy is bad enough, but then to come face to face with him. THE Macintosh, the man she dreams of and fantasizes over, to the exclusion of any others within her grasp.
And we are off to the races with smart-mouthed heroines, deadly plots from rival clans, knowledge of the future and the need for Dominic to trust in this woman who fascinates him with her strange clothes and forward way of speech.
Like much from the pen of Sabrina York, the characters are quickly intriguing, with humor and determination warring for dominance. Maggie is the perfect choice for the first through the circle: her familiarity with the family history (for Dominic IS a relation, albeit distant) gives her a unique perspective to change history. If she dares.
A fun and quick reading romance, with plenty of heroes to continue the story (I vote for Ewan) there are plenty of Highlanders to discover present-day Seattle and let the romances flare repeatedly! I can’t offer a better choice for heat, heart and humor.
I purchased a copy of the title for my personal library. I was not obligated nor compensated for my review. All conclusions are my own responsibility.
Maggie Spencer is a young woman with her head in a time other than the one she lives in; she loves history, lives and breathes it and is enamored of a particular man she has never met-Dominic Dundragon, a man who lived over 700 years ago, in the 1300's, he is a part of her ancestors. She has been in love with him half her life and never considers meeting him! She lives in the modern world and loves her creature comforts, her designer coffee, and living in Seattle.
One day she is out chasing the family dog, Mop, and she trips and falls -right into the 1300's! Right into the camp of her secret love desire, Dominic Dundragon. Of course right off the bat she is in a bad position, they do not know who this young bold as you please woman is, wearing the colors of their enemy clan to boot! When she sees the object of her desire- the Laird- Dominic Dundragon, she is just shocked to say the least. Not only by him but all these huge men who are wearing kilts and have no desire to bathe, all carrying weapons and just acting like she is a spy. Add to that they can't understand what the other is saying half the time and it causes all kinds of funny reactions. Including she may be a witch!
Things start getting crazy and after something bad happens, Maggie needs to go back to her time to get something to save Dominic's life; instead his brother has to go and you will not believe what happens! Talk about a time warp!
I gave this book 5 stars and can't wait for the next book to come out!
What worked best in this story was the humor Maggie has when speaking with her more old fashioned new friends. She is super sarcastic and talks like you or best friend if they were in the same situation. I typically don't like to quote a book when reviewing but she had some of the funniest one liners like talking about 50 Shades of Grey when tied up - you get the picture, really current and funny. The chemistry between Maggie and Dominic was steamy and believable. Their romance and sexy times start off quickly but it by no means took over the story. The adventure part of the story was interesting and fun with Maggie helping out in a big battle scene. It appears that the story has historical fact backing up the fictional story which made the writing even better. However, this is not a book that a reader will be looking for historical facts but more about getting caught up in the romance. Can't wait for the next one!
