Full disclaimer up front... I am a big Sandra Bullock fan because everything I have seen her in has been good! This one slipped past me and I recently watched it. I thought it was going to be one of those movies that I could play in the background while I got some crafting done. Those movies where you can mostly listen to it and still keep up but this wasn't one of those. I had to stop what I was doing so I could watch every little bit. Especially with the one mailbox scene back and forth. I'll say no more because I don't to spoil it. If you want a little romance with a bit of comedy, a sad scene or two, and a good ending, this may be the movie for you. It's thought provoking and magical. Most movies like this are fun to watch but don't really stay with you. This one is a bit haunting and thought provoking in a good way. It's one of the best romance movies I have seen in a very long time. It's been days since I have watched it and I keep coming back and thinking about it. If you appreciate architecture the lake house will stay in your memory.

As a fan of the time travel genre, I was inspired recently to watch The Lake House again after some years have passed from my first viewing. You could say the universe has pulled me back into its orbit, and as though a homecoming having loved someone from many years ago who was most themselves when at a lakeside cabin in the Ontario Northwoods. Hence, for me, this movie is personal. I think a review is long overdue but worth the wait.
It is so refreshing to watch a love story unfold on the screen with subtlety; it is equally as heartwarming to follow a storyline that gently and deeply explores the mystery of human connection. Too often, movies with a love story to tell of two people who belong together though separated by circumstance, and sometimes the novels from which they are adapted, portray these characters who are meant to be joined, indeed elevated together in mind, body, and soul in a degraded or shallow fashion. Crude, mechanical exchanges mistaken for passion. Repetitive dialogue that reads more like a sex manual than the imaginative anticipation of the beloved. The Lake House does not make such mistakes because, after all, love is worth the wait.
5 stars for structure, script, and fine acting from both leading and supporting cast members.

Ok so I am a guy & I know guys aren't supposed to like "chick flicks", but I've always liked sappy love stories! And yes, usually I do tear up watching them(guess I'm a wimp). Maybe it's because I've had my heart ripped out a couple of times;IDK. I am also a classic car guy if that helps me at all in the "guy dept". Not too thrilled with "Romantic comedies" though. Just this kind. Sad & sappy, but with a happy ending. I've had enough heartbreak in my life, I don't want to watch love stories where the lovers don't get/stay together either.
Yes, I know the "time thing" is fake, but it's called "suspension of disbelief". My main issue was that they only were really together in the last scene. Over all I liked it & may watch it again. I also want to watch "Ilmare" the Korean movie this is based on.

The modern day of "Somewhere in Time"....beautifully done. Some people may argue "how is this possible? It is not realistic!" Well, have you ever been truly in love? When you are, True LOVE is a magic that tranquilizes you like you are in a fairy tale. This movie is well crafted, from the script, directing, editing, cinematography to excellent performance by Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves. Both Bullock's and Reeves' characters are likable and down to the earth; the director did an excellent job to build up their love and bonded relationship in front of the audience, it was so intense that we become so eager to see them to be together regardless it is possible or realistic. All the episodes in this movie are flowing well. The last, not the least, the excellent performance by supporting actors Christopher Plummer and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

I love Keanu Reeves. While he's a little quirky acting in this movie at times, he's still a stud :) I like the chemistry between Sandra and Keanu, ever since I saw them in Speed YEARSSSS ago. I think they work great together. She can't have him though. He's mine, he just doesn't know it yet ;)

Would have liked to give it 4 and a half stars, but that is not an option. This is a love story. It is sweet and sensitive (get out the tissues). The story is about two people distanced by 2 years and the lake house that brings them together. Spoiler alert - via the mail box, they begin a writing of letters to each other. By way of this relationship, like a long distance, or sorts, relationship, they begin to fall in love. There are many chance meetings, which keeps you waiting and hoping. Many obstacles to hurdle. Would have not chosen these two in a loving relationship roles, but in this movie it appears to work.

We wanted to like this movie, but we found it slow agony to watch scene after scene of people having lack of meaningful connection. The romance was unconvincing. By the end we barely were interested in the characters. There were so many great reviews, and my husband and I felt like we just wasted an hour plus of our lives. It was an interesting premise for a movie, but if only it had characters that did not have massive attachment problems. The Sandra Bullock character had a depressed presence that did not move me because the viewer did not really get to connect with her real hopes and aspirations. We kept saying as we watched the movie, "What is this movie trying to do for the viewer? I feel horrible." I have loved other Sandra Bullock movies but NOT THIS ONE.

Reviewed in Germany on July 17, 2019Verified Purchase
Hab ihn mittlerweile schon mehrmals gesehen.
