The skates look fantastic, and I love the silver detail and name plate on the heel. I bought them for recreational use, so they will work fine for that. The material is man-made (not leather), which is fine for the price point and occassional use. Like another reviewer said the tongue tends to slide to one side, even when you first put the boots on, so sewing a tab on the tongue to pull the laces through once (similar to sneakers) would correct that problem.
Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and once I spend the money to get them sharpened they'll have paid for themselves after 12 uses (as opposed to renting).
However, the support around the ankles isn't great and the tongue really tends to slip to one side-- but that can easily be fixed by cutting some notches into the tongue to slip the laces through.
Also, something that first time skaters might not know: skates are not ready to use right out of the box. Be sure to get them sharpened.
For the price, it's an ok pair to buy if you want to explore figure skating but don't want to invest too much into it right away.
You should also get these sharpened before you skate on them. In my case it cost $15 at the pro-shop at our local rink, which will probably be good for a year or more.
Sharpened them and skated in them today, we'll see if they hold up!
Price seems ok for the quality as long as they don't fall apart as previous reviewers
Will try to wipe them dry after each skate, maybe that will help.
