so i tried each of the flavors over a span of a month or so, and wrote down my feelings about each one as i tried it:
Irish creme: 2/5 - just tastes like more milky chocolate.
Mint chocolate: 5/5 - the best flavor hands down
Raspberry: 5/5 - nice and strong berry notes, and great berry aftertaste
Caramel: 4/5 - notable caramel, very yummy. feel tempted to add salt next time
Mocha: 2/5 - ....didnt feel like a hot coco at all, deff 100% coffee feeling
Vanilla: 3/5 - better than the irish creme at least, a good vanilla flavor
Butterscotch: 4/5 - this was pretty bomb, and i know my partner will love this flavor. !!!
Cinnamon: 4/5 - solid spicy-ness to it, i think i would enjoy it with a little chili added as well
Amaretto: 3/5 - good flavor, i really wish it was a stronger flavor overall though, felt weak
Hazelnut: 4/5 really good, nutty. reminds me when i would get hot coco at 7 eleven and add a pump of hazlenut
Chocolate supreme: 3/5 its just a slightly stronger hot chocolate, nothing special but its still a good hot coco.

overall very happy to have tried this out, and i now know my favorite flavors for the future to order!! deff getting butterscotch and raspberry. i already am stocked up on the mint one ;P

Cocoa surprises even the toughest to please

My mother is a notoriously difficult person to buy Christmas gifts for. She already has everything that she needs and she hands out a very precise, yet concise, list of things she wants. Surprising her with a gift she will genuinely like is a feat few attempt and even fewer succeed.

This holiday season started out as any other with my wallet light and heart heavy with the consigned guilt that I was yet again placing the importance of my mother enjoying a gift over a surprise. That all changed when I was scrolling through Amazon and saw this lovely cocoa sampler pop up in my recommendations. It just so happens that Land O' Lakes is my mother's favorite brand of hot cocoa and is quickly becoming the only brand that she drinks. I decided that since the cocoa was only around $20, the price was right to take a risk.

On Christmas morning, a wave of senseless panic overcame me as she opened my gift at a tantalizing slow speed. Once she had finally undone the bow and tore off the last shreds of wrapping paper, she began to inspect the box. She remarked that she liked the unique nature of the black and white box but she hadn't a clue what was inside. I smiled, looks could definitely be deceiving.

She pried open the box and stared at the contents inside. She let out a small gasp at the sight of her favorite cocoa that warmed her on the coldest of nights. She leafed through the 11 packets of cocoa and a smile climbed its way onto her face.

After we finished opening presents, my mother made herself a cup of Chocolate Supreme hot cocoa. She loved it's rich flavor topped with ooey gooey marshmallows. Later that week she tried Irish Creme and Amaretto. She loved both. (She hasn't tried the rest of the flavors but I'm sure she'll enjoy them just as much as the first.)

When she set her cup down on the coaster, she said something totally unexpected. "Thank you for the wonderful surprise."

Those are the same words I'd like to say to the people at Black Tie Mercantile. Thank you for the unexpected surprise of making my mother happy this Christmas. I couldn't have done it without you.

I had to change my rating from 5 stars to 4. I have been receiving this item since early 2020 and the flavors were exactly as described. In the last few months, flavors added Gingerbread, Sugar Cookie, Chocolate Snickerdoodle, and Salted Caramel. Flavors vary per box. 1 of my 3 boxes did not have Cinnamon, Amaretto, or Carmel. Both Sugar Cookie and Chocolate Snickerdoodle are VERY sweet. I haven't tried the Salted Caramel or Gingerbread but not a fan of either.
